Hello
I’ll be 63 in January I’m two years or less away from retirement, depending on my health . Back when I was late teens, early twenties I caught 700 muskrats, 40-50 mink and foxes . I caught average of 200 coons mostly over dogs in an average season.
I have started buying a few traps to run a small trap line once I retire
So far I have
8 110 conibears
6 #1 coil springs
3 #1-3/4 coil springs
3 dog proof
1 #3 coil springs
Plus anchors stakes wire etc
After 40 years I am going to have to study back up

Welcome back to the sport. Lots of good info in the archives here and lots can be gleaned from youtube videos as well. Consider joining Ohio Trappers Association, going to conventions and making connections.

I would recommend collecting a few bigger traps... if you're gonna land trap in OH. Coyotes are rough on traps.

Just give me one thing, that I can hold on to. To believe in this livin' is just a hard way to go.

Mercer and Darke counties right on Indiana line . I carried Indiana license to coon hunt with hounds . We had some powerhouse hounds back then

A lot of the open ditches that I used to trap are now tiled and underground. Most of the farmers are no longer with us. I was running 200+ conibears and a couple dozen box traps

We're about the same age tired. So you remember back in the day there were rats everywhere and grey fox were right behind them. Great trapping back then and i'd like to have back all the miles i logged behind coon dogs. A couple things have changed like deer, weren't many around back then but thick now and of course the coyotes moved in and changed a lot. I just used 1 1/2s for fox and i remember having one just wrecked and thought i'd hooked up with a big dog or something and when a buddy of mine caught one, it made the local paper. Good luck to you.
