Not too many years ago I know of a village school in Alaska that was going on a field trip to some fossil beds up-river a few miles. One of the local dads volunteered to run his scow (flat bottomed boat) for the day. Of course he had his rifle in the boat, on the way up river they came upon a moose, the dad shot it, the kids helped cut it up. Not anything too out of the ordinary for those kids.

I can still remember being able to bring our shotguns on the bus. You needed to leave it with the driver when you got on and then take it immediately to the Principal's office when you got to school. It wasn't uncommon in the Fall to have 30-40 shotguns (in cases) leaned in the corner of his office. Some kids shot trap after school and many others would go to a friends house or cabin for the weekend.

I have nothing clever to put here.

We used to have shotguns in our vehicles because after school some of us were going pheasant hunting. One of the guys I hunted with even had his dog in the back of his truck with the topper windows opened so the dog could get some air. He was allowed to let the dog out during study hall to pee. Those were the days!
