Thinking of new deer rifle for next season it’s a Henry in 308 caliber I have a inherited Remington woods master in 308 and plan on retiring it after this season it’s done a fantastic job for me with many many deer taken and also served my father in law well I’m just wanting to retire it while its still in working condition so I’m looking at this new lever for me and also have 1000s of rounds of the 308 hunting ammo that’s one reason for staying in the same caliber

Just got the blessing from my bride said to order it Monday and pass down the woodsmaster to our oldest grandson I said he ain’t getting it till first of the year lol she said we will see bout that so guess it’s a win win for me and him

Glad your getting a new gun you want. Yet I don't understand the need to rationalize or justify the purchase. You want it then get it and enjoy it. Be honest with yourself. It's not likely your ever going to wear the old gun out in 5 lifetimes. It may get banged up and show wear but very few people shoot enough rounds out of a hunting gun to even break them in in their life. Heck not many get shot 10 times a year after the new purchase thrill wears off. 308 has around a 6k round count for barrel life. Few hunters will shoot that many rounds of hunting ammo in their life.

let us know how you like it , 308 just plain works for deer , no need to change that at all


the woods master , I use mine very little as well , make sure it is clean in the chamber and I use a M1 safe load so that I am not over-gassing it.

I got a 760 that will take it's place for most things

I also have a 308 for deer in a bolt gun

I am a big 308win fan , I like 180s my 308 load pushes a Speer 180 at 2625fps average
