For states that require deer stops, how bad is fur damage?

For states that require deer stops, how bad is fur damage? I never used them but have heard that red fox will saw their head off the pelt if held alive with something like that on the snare.

In my experience with coyotes it’s not fur damage so much as the prolonged death especially on female or younger animals. A break a way is much more ethical and works as intended on leg caught deer or livestock. Agree with this. Complete closure. Let the break away do its job if it is needed.

First pic, coyote at the bottom has a sawed head. And the one on the right is a jellyhead. I blew up the pic and see it plain.

I’ve gotten a couple fox that had water heads. I just wash them, dry for a day before putting on the stretcher fur side in, and turn when the skin is cardboardy. It’s a couple of extra steps but they sure look nice after washing. AND I haven’t caught enough fox to see that it impacts my put up time.
As for coyotes, I know nothing. Haven’t snared one yet.
We use BADs here but I had 2 deer get into snares which didn’t open the BADs. I use a short snare (~40 inches) for coon so there wasn’t enough room to get a full head of steam. This is why I’m thinking of going to deer stops.
