A couple hundred pounds, as far back as possible. Tube sand works well. Put a 2x4 across the bed behind the wheel wells to keep the tubes in place.

And hope you have a limited slip differential. Do a burnout, should leave 2 tire streaks. If it leaves 1, its an open rear end. Good luck with that.

Use it for weight and throw some loose under your tires of you are stuck

I cary it in cat litter buckets with a sour cream container as a scoop.

The School bus drivers and big milk trucks use it .

it really Works 10x better under the tires than anything else.

^ Scott I had thought about cat litter too! Up until last year I used non clumping because I had quite a few cats and it was cheap. May consider it still!

We have feed stores that sell a 70 lb tube of sand

5 of those should do something

And if you get stuck...you rip one open.

And find yourself a 4wd...if yah want to be a Trappah ..lol

..60 pounds...any Hardware store should have them

3-400 pounds is about right

establish the roll then add speed

remember you can go but can you stop , make sure not to over drive your ability to stop

try not to stop , keep moving any time you can slow down and time it so that if at all possible you won't have to stop behind people and you can roll through that turn.

there is a speed at which your tires fling snow you want to get to flinging speed but not too fast
too slow and you build up snow on the tires , it isn't all that fast about 18-20 and you start flinging snow.

make sure you have the momentum to get through the pile of snow the plow leaves in the intersection

carry a shovel , a tow strap and something for grit or sand
know where to attach that strap

when in doubt , checking traps , park someplace safe and walk in , lot easier to walk out than shovel the path out for the truck
always park on top of or on the down hill slope facing the direction you want to be going.

learn to back up in your own tracks when you screwed up

momentum carries you through the bad spots , it can also carry you where you don't want to go , it is a fine line between enough and too much that you sort of have to get a feel for

learn how to get stuck someplace safe with help first.

If in doubt, stop and walk out where you want to drive to see how deep it is. But GreenCountyPete's reply is golden for driving in the snow. Remember it's always easier to walk than it is to dig. I've learned this lesson well. Also, make sure to carry a good shovel. This was my first oopsie of the year, had to call a farmer and get pulled out by a tractor. I was trying to turn around on a narrow road and didn't give myself enough room and my front tire hit the hitch and then my rear tires fell in too and it was downhill from there.

If you have a toolbox in your truck, move it back by the tailgate. A couple hundred pounds of miscellaneous junk helps, and it doesn't move around at all. Or a few hundred pounds of sand, a half sheet of plate steel is awesome, and you'll forget it's even there because it's flat

Some cheap tarps and a trip to Lowe's for some quick set concrete helped me out for a bit.

Run snow tires not all season. good snow tires will get you through a lot.

Like like like everything here. I’ve had my truck for many years and I’ve learned a lot about handling AND momentum. Also learned to avoid routes with too many inclines that have stop signs or stop lights at the end. My truck has low miles and even lower on the engine so I hate to have to trade it in for 4wD especially since our winters are considerably mild. However they CAN be wet and soggy and muddy which makes trapping and getting to my sets in a timely manner a problem.
Prob gonna go with that tube sand if I can find it !
