I shoot an excalibur matrix 380 and had an equinox before that.
I have a matrix 340 as backup for my son.
I’ve killed alot of deer with them.
Would not hesitate to buy another when/if the time comes.

The 340 is easier to pull with a rope Setter

I went to a sports shop and tried the three eighty and I liked the three forty better.

If you're not shooting over 25 yds, there is no need for anything over a $500 cross bow (brand new). That puts you in a xbow that's shooting over 400 fps. Barnett 410, Bear X Intense, Killer instinct, lots of choices.

Look into the BearX Intense on amazon. They have a kit for $320 with all you need to start, including bolts.

I have used a Barnett for the past 8? years. Shoots like 360 fps. Does all I need out to ~40 yds.

I have a bear x intense and love it. I’ve had it a couple years and paid around $400 for everything.

excalabers are nice but all are much wider than compound models though they do have some that are narrow than the older models. draw weight is higher out of necessity as well. one very nice thing about them is its one cheap string and you can replace it yourself in a minute to 90 seconds. well unless you get the 2 shot model that has 2 strings. I almost bought an excalibur when I got that 10 point this year. I think the one Das had is an old excalibur he got from my wife's grandmother when her grandfather died.

Bought my wife a used Excalibur Vixen off a eBay like 15 years ago for $120.
Simple, quiet, very accurate.

Cam bows = a head ache when it needs to be worked on. Recurve limbs = you can do all the work on the bow.

Got a ten point I am gonna sell and buy two more Excalibur's. Might even get enough to buy a couple dozen bolts.

It is worth noting that the cam crossbows with reverse draw and short axle to axle spread are preferred by those who utilize mobile ground blinds.

My wife, son and dad have a wicked ridge 360 which is the cheap end of ten point. Light and easy to shoot. 2 of the 3 had a cracked limb in less than 2 years. They charge you $50 to repair under warranty! Yeah, i bought the 1st one at a big open house store event and talked directly to a ten point rep. He told me they have a great warranty and everything was covered. Guess I should have read the fine print. My dads is in the shop right now. He shot it off after hunting and bolt only went 10 yards. Bow shop argued with him that he dry fired it. They have an anti dry fire device in them, so not sure what happened? Strings came off, shop says it needs new wheels and strings. My dad also has an older ten point, no problems but its heavy. Thats the reason he bought the wicked ridge.
Friend bought a bear, 3rd shot the limb broke. Sent it back to factory and they sent him a new bow.
My advice is buy a brand that a local bow shop will repair.

X2 330 - simple, super accurate, easy to load and unload with the rope pulley, easy to change strings and unstring in the off season.

I think i paid 700 cdn $ for mine which is practically free in american green backs. :-)

Thx for all the feedback.
Many varying opinions.
Obviously it's what works best for a person's hunting situation.
Two very good points for me to consider.
Cables and pulley
Or string.
I don't expect to be hunting many more years
So it's probably going to be a lower end costing unit.
Like I said 7-800 tops.
I do relish quality so it may be a good used bow.
I think trips to the bow shops in the area is my first step.
Hopefully I have one in time for the late doe season.
Fat and sassy is the way I like my deer.
Thx again for your valued responses.

the width vs 10 point venom. 9.75 " under 7lb crank loading and unloading so dont have to shoot to unload is what sold me over the excaliburs on line thear are just over 1000 .. I sure did like how easy the excalibur is to change strings and the price of strings vs new cables. Bottom line almost any modern x bow is going to be great to 40 yards and kill deer very well. You can find them frome a few hundred to over 3 k. Im comfortable out to 60 yards with both of mine. go look at them and ask a lot of questions about features and size. finde something you like and buy it. normally bow shops let you try them out on their range. Be warry of what they push many try to up sell you on things you dont need that are a higher price. [Linked Image]

There are some new Bear Intense crossbows for sale on ebay for around $350 with free shipping. They say they are 400 fps.
I don't know much about Crossbows, but Bear has been around for a long time and makes some good archery equipment.
