If you're not shooting over 25 yds, there is no need for anything over a $500 cross bow (brand new). That puts you in a xbow that's shooting over 400 fps. Barnett 410, Bear X Intense, Killer instinct, lots of choices.
Look into the BearX Intense on amazon. They have a kit for $320 with all you need to start, including bolts.
I have used a Barnett for the past 8? years. Shoots like 360 fps. Does all I need out to ~40 yds. I've own 4 X bows and agree with what is said above

Cam bows = a head ache when it needs to be worked on. Recurve limbs = you can do all the work on the bow.
Got a ten point I am gonna sell and buy two more Excalibur's. Might even get enough to buy a couple dozen bolts.

It is worth noting that the cam crossbows with reverse draw and short axle to axle spread are preferred by those who utilize mobile ground blinds.

Thx for all the feedback. Many varying opinions. Obviously it's what works best for a person's hunting situation. Two very good points for me to consider. Cables and pulley Or string. I don't expect to be hunting many more years So it's probably going to be a lower end costing unit. Like I said 7-800 tops. I do relish quality so it may be a good used bow. I think trips to the bow shops in the area is my first step. Hopefully I have one in time for the late doe season. Fat and sassy is the way I like my deer. Thx again for your valued responses.

There are some new Bear Intense crossbows for sale on ebay for around $350 with free shipping. They say they are 400 fps. I don't know much about Crossbows, but Bear has been around for a long time and makes some good archery equipment.
