I camo'd my bow with rattle cans and then went over it with car rubbing compound to remove the shine. Came out spectacular..

figure out everything you do not want paint on like sights ejection port , loading port , trigger , plug your barrel with an ear plug or wad of tape, ect... mask all that off with tape de-grease with alcohol , brake clean , acetone , just something to get the oil off
don't paint on a cold day outside you want above 60
so here is the thing you are making a decision to have a painted gun or leave it alone , anything can be stripped and re-painted with some air craft paint stripper and a warm day
if you didn't go too heavy you can just paint over the top
practice on something else first
watch a bunch of you tube videos so you can see different peoples technique
at the end of the day it is not rocket science , it is breaking up a outline
rustoleum or krylon they both make camo colors flat paint
remember you are deciding painted gun or leave it alone you can always re-do it if you don't like your first attempt
some people take the gun apart and do individual components but , that can be harder to match your pattern.

Wolfie!...customer on line 1.... Honestly rattle canning is super easy. Just get paint made for those type applications . Rust-Oleum has a camo paint deal that's a lil on the expensive side for spray paint but it all matte with next to no shine and works amazing! Just that a few minutes and wipe off any oil in the metal parts. Lil acatone on a rag is all you need . O and making tape. If anything is really difficult for a basic rattle can job it's making off everything properly. Still roll of making tape and a lil exaco knife and you looking at like 10-15min. I would advise tying your gun up or prop it like this somehow though. Makes it easier Also when you do you base coat don't put it on thick in one go. Give it a light first coat let it dry a good bit then another one or two. Then add your break up colors. Getting the base coat can be a lil pain though . Id go with whatever the most prominent color in you area is . As far as you break up. You can lay gras and stuff on it and get some cool designs or buy reusable stencils...but really a few swipes of different colors can work pretty good too. This one was with grass and some twigs to make the pattern I've trh base coat But these two where just streaked over the base coat

Use camo gun tape you can get it at Walmart for cheap and if you decide you don’t like it anymore you can take it off and it leaves no residue

I have a savage 62 .22 lr that bought new when I was 18 for $89.00 @ Walmart. My first 4473 bought gun. it's seen rough use now for 26 years. no blue on the barrel broken front sight( one of the boys knocked it over onto a rock when i was skinning squirrel years back) cheap stock is cracked up and but Plate is broken. I'm thinking it may need a paint job. But I'm not sure I want the paint the vx 3 that's on it to match the gun since I have been known to mobmve scopes around. Yes I have a $500 scope of a cheap beater like that.
then take the scope off and mask the scope mount put it back on when done not an issue
