Was heading down the road towards town a couple hours ago with my trailer loaded with firewood, I saw Mama run across in front of me and I slowed down just in time to whack the calf as it came into the road. Ended up spinning a full 520 with a cord of wood jack knifed into the bed of my pickup. No major damage, just some dents and a dead moose. Even got moose hair stuck to the side of my trailer lol.

I also failed to mention I didn't lose a single piece of firewood. More than a little proud of my wood stacking abilities lol

Yeah, it definitely could have, glad I was able to slow down a little bit prior and keep it on the road with the tires facing down

I'm glad you weren't hurt , a dent or two can be removed from a pickup , it's a miracle that you didn't end up with the calf on you're lap .

They are a big critter to smack with a vehicle. I remember dodging them in Maine.

Father in law hit one here in Michigan a few years back. Crunched the front of his truck up pretty good.

Here the DNR take the moose. They take some samples for research, then donate the meat (after they take their share to eat )

A couple weeks ago I was in South Dakota and came upon on semi that had just centered a black angus. Speed limit was 65 or 70 mph.

It was unbelievable the amount of blood and guts on the highway...not to mention the damage to the front end of the truck.

Years ago, I had a young man insured who was traveling in northern MN in a Ford Ranger. He straddled a bull moose on the highway. It went over his hood and wiped out the top of his truck and he was killed.

I didn't take any pictures last night it was very dark (December in AK, shocking I know). But I'll take some when it's daylight in a couple hours. No moose meat, the troopers take them and there's a road kill list. What is messed up is I called to report that I hit a moose, told the dispatcher where it was and gave her my info, then I got a voicemail from AST saying I have 10 days to file a report online or they might suspend my license...which rubbed me wrong, cuz I could have easily just drove away and said nothing and left a moose as a speed bump on the parks Highway, but trying to do the right thing got me paperwork to deal with.
