....Why not! Sounds like a blast for the lucky few who have done so recently.

280lbr’s? Short of going to the east coast of Africa I’m not sure where you would catch them that size.

Fabulous fish to catch. I’ve caught quite a number and Tarpon are my favorite of either salt or freshwater fish. Spectacular fighters.

I was lucky enough to catch a 110 and a 165 pounder on the Caloosahatchee river in Florida. Hour and 35 minute fight. I didn't want to try for another the next day. It was amazing when it jumped about 10 feet in the air next to the boat. It landed and splashed us and then made the jump to light speed. I thought the reel was going to burst into flames and it was out 100 yards in what seemed like a second. That 165 pounder had some shoulders. We measured it and let it go. I did a reproduction of it, I will look up a pic. If you get a chance to catch one, do it.

Here is my reproduction after I finished it. My wife is scared of heights and she got up on the ledge to help me hang it at the lake place and I took the ladder down to get her reaction for a pic. grin

There's a guy on the NANFA site who has been catching a tremendous number of tropical and semi tropical fish species in New England this year. Apparently some current is bringing them up North. A lot of the fish are fantastic looking. The variety he is catching is incredible.

I've been catching tropicals in the pots for 50 years, the eggs and fry get here from the eddies of the gulf stream. Every year is different, last year there were a lot of octopus, this year only one, always various groupers, butterfly angels, and others. Even had a lion fish once....

I tried selling them to the aquarium stores but they won't pay anything
