I've had mine for over 50 years the only problem I had was when I broke the ejector shooting hot loads. I've shot hundreds of match 7.62 rounds through it also. I don’t remember a recall on mine.

I've not had a problem with mine either .it's about time to take it out for a oil patch just because before it's back in the cabinet .

There was a recall on the firing pin probably 30 years ago. If you take it to a gunsmith they should be able to remove the old pin, send it to Winchester along with the serial number and Winchester will replace it, free of charge and pay the gunsmith (I believe it was $25). I assume they will still honor this but I am not sure. Parts are getting hard to find for them as well.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I bought mine at the Sears store in Rapid City, SD in 1972 or 73. I loaded shells all week and went out on Saturday to shoot prairie dogs. I did this a lot in the summer. I've put a lot of rounds through it.

Very well built gun as was the model 88 !

As 160 mentions the firing pin can break and protrude causing the pin to strike the primer when bolt seats. Authorized Winchester service centers still will replace faulty pin. Kept reasonably clean they perform flawlessly !

Gunsmiths were supposed to tell Winchester when they did the recall. Winchester will let you know if they have it on record as being done.

Worst case it breaks and goes full auto and rips off the whole magazine.

Pretty cool guns. Mine is pretty accurate too. I'd love to get an 88 to go with it.

Extra mags get pricey.

I have a model 100, 308, bought it new . They have to be kept very clean. Very nice bush gun . I have a peep sight, light weight and fast sight location. I had extractor problems, I think I was reloading , too hot. reduced my loads , a bit. Nosler 180 partitions for deer and moose. Have shot a bunch of deer with it. Yes keep your eyes open for a spare mag, I got one , they are expensive. What is the price , it doesn;t show. old 243

Had the firing pin changed on mine when the recall came out. They only had a hand full of places that could do it at the start and I didn't want to ship so made the drive to St Louis and dropped the gun off, got a motel room and then picked it up the next morning.

The rifle has no will of its own it may be used for evil but there are more good men than evil men and evil will be corrected by good men with rifles.

Actually, when it happens it fires on an open bolt and the rifle self destructs. There was a guy here that had it happen to him while shooting across the hood of his truck. When the magazine blew out the bottom it stamped WINCHESTER in the hood of his truck and he was picking Walnut out of his left arm for a week. It could have been much worse.

Good to know. I was always told when it broke, it left half the pin stuck out, so it would like slamfire on chambering/rebound until there was no more shells. Makes sense though if it did that without being all the way in battery it would be bad.

Have had mine for 30 plus years. My daughter uses it for deer hunting every fall.

I’ve had mine for 45 years, and my gunsmith handled things during the recall. Great gun.

If kept clean they are a good rifle. If someone is taking it apart make sure they know what they are doing or they will split the stock on both sides. Also, the action bars DO break and replacements are not available. When they break, it is a parts gun.
