It's 11:35 in Alaska currently, so I normally try to be asleep by now, but it doesn't always happen for me. I wake up between 5 and 5:30 everyday regardless.

It may have been 115 in south Idaho when you posted but it was only 1215 in NORTH Idaho.

A lot of folks don’t realize Idaho has 2 time zones. In fact, there are a lot of people on the east coast that don’t understand time zones at all. They think just because they are eating breakfast at 7 AM, many of us in the western US are still fast asleep.!!!! Think about it before you pick up the phone to place a phone call to one of the many folks that are 3 time zones away.

End of rant.

It took me a bit of adjustment when myI kid changed his duty station to AK. They are 3 hours behind Central time.

I think a lot of Americans don't get the time differences around the world. I think most Americans get that the Earth is revolving around the Sun and moving in its orbit everyday but I suspect if you asked "How far ahead in the day is most of western Europe, or eastern Europe, or The Middle East, or China?" and they wouldn't be able to answer or at least get close in the number of hours different.

My wife is a smart person and has a good sense of local geography around here such what way in cardinal directions is this location from another. However, she always asks me if Eastern is an hour ahead of us or an hour behind? I put it gently that "the Sun rises in the East and moves tot he West" but that doesn't seem to stick.

Spatial awareness at multiple geographical scales is something that a lot of people don't have or seem can't learn.

I'm sure they all know what time it is in Moscow given their local time zones.

China is about the same size as the conterminous U.S. but only has one official time zone. The locals all use their own but they also know what time it is in Peking. (excuse me, Beijing).
