Has anyone added kill bars to their conibears? Curious what rod material people have used? How the bent the material? Interested in adding some to a pile of Duke 155s. Looking for better closure and to prevent run away springs.

Contact RBG I had them build a few BULDOGS out Duke 155s...stout trap and its lights out for critters.
Professionally done... no screwing around.

I held Fisher by the front leg in the Duke120. That gap certainly wasn’t an issue.

Those 5x5 Dukes like all their body grips have exceptional spring strength. I have some hand built JC traps with kill bars. Quite frankly they scare me as they have zero forgiveness.

I have welded rod to the inside of the jaws on some Duke 330's. IIRC, it took two thicknesses of the rod.The rod came from old worn out Northwoods traps. On the side that has the dog, weld one half length of the rod on each side of the dog, so that the dog can still spin. 2 thicknesses will clear the dog. I call em "stay caughts". You will not get rub marks. Otter usually don't even move the trap off a stand. DRT.

Not a good picture but this is a 330 I added kill bars to. Used 5/16 rod.

I’m just an adc trapper so I would guess you would add a piece of 1/4 stock to the end of the plate to minimize fur damage.
Trap is probably 40 year old, created for a humane study in wa state.
No side weld to support the killl bar
