We here in WA are suffering under a F&W Commission chosen by an idiot Governor with animal rights leanings. There has been a report prepared for the Legislature on what a dysfunctional mess the F&W Commission has become. Some proposals have been put forth to either change the way the Commission is chosen or make the Director of F&W a Cabinet position and do away with the Commission.
What kind of system do you have in your State for choosing who runs things in F&W and do you think it works good?

The governor with i believe senate confirmation.

Head guy is a commissioner chosen by the governor. Commissioner picks head of game and head of fish. Other employees hired by the F&G dept. We have a Board of Fish and a Board of game to deal with hunting and fishing regs.

Governor picks them. Had high hopes with our republican governor getting to choose them all but they ended up being spineless politicians that cater to the wolf worshippers. Very disappointing.

The nine members of the Pennsylvania Game Commission's Board of Commissioners are appointed by our governor on the advice of and with the majority consent of our state senate.

They are supposed to be, "competent citizens of the Commonwealth who shall be well-informed on the subject of wildlife conservation and restoration."

Our NYS DEC is run mostly by upper level political appointees
picked by governor Kathy Hochul so our wildlife bureau
is mostly infiltrated by animal rights activists.

Democrat Governor Walz ! Same one who failed in his recent VP run. About as far away from a sportsman as you could possibly get .

The same system exists in every state. It's called the "North American Model of Wildlife Management". A commission provides oversight to the state wildlife agency, who in turn has biologists, law enforcement, and data collectors. It was started 120 years ago by Trophy hunters like Teddy Roosevelt, George Bird Grinnel and Aldo Leupold who looked around and saw the demise of the Bison, passenger pidgeon, grizzly bears, and the near demise of much of North American wildlife that thrives today because of the establishment of seasons, bag limits and enforcement.
