The USA was scared to get in both the first and second world wars to fight,but they did provide financial assistance.

Also, one of the biggest timber buyers in western Canada is Alcan Timber, based in Ketchikan, AK.

I’m not sure on that Boco. The tide did not turn in world war 2 until D day and D day would not have happened without everything America brought to the endeavor. Yes the Brits outlasted Germany in the skies over England for the win but crossing the channel was momentous.

A lot of countries including Canada paid a very big and brave price for those beachheads and the turning of the tide.

I don't think the US buying Canadian lumber has anything to do with tree-hugging hippies. Canadian lumber is less expensive because the Canadian lumber industry is heavily subsidized by the Canadian government. It's easy to beat the competition (American lumber companies) when the government is footing a big chunk of the bill.

That's why Trump imposed tariffs on Canadian lumber the first time he was President, it's why Biden kept those tariffs in place and it's why those tariffs are likely to increase after Trump takes office again.

There are a lot of factors at play. One of them is the red tape government agencies have to go through to sell wood. Just an example: the USFS had a big timber sale on the south end of POW, it got approved, then held up in litigation for several years (Sierra club or green peace IDK), then had to be re-approved which takes a few months, then was approved and immediately held up in court again (another environmental group). So the USFS got fed up, and traded the land to Sealaska (a native corporation owned by my tribe) and we clear cut it all within 3 years and the US tax payers lost out on a few billion dollars worth of timber because a few idiots from California thought they were gonna save the world.
