It's probably also Where the Red Fern Grows.
I do feel the original movie did it justice though!!!
Runners up are Stormy and Haunt Fox by Jim Kjelgaard.

"The Old Man and the Boy" by Robert Ruark is probably my all-time favorite. Yup, I reread it every 5-10 years. Older I get, the more it resonates with me. Sequel too. The sequel, "The Old Man's Boy Grows Older" is also a great book, sad though.
