I just saw an advertisement for “ where the red fern grows “ and it took me back to when I first read it.
There truly has not been a movie adaptation, in my opinion, that does it justice.
It’s only second, in my opinion, as one of the best stories ever written.
The Bible is first.

"The Old Man and the Boy" by Robert Ruark is probably my all-time favorite.

The Hobbit. I’m not just saying that because I love Lord of the Rings. The book just makes me feel cozy.

But lately in life I prefer non-fiction for leisure reading.

Last year the wife and I attended a live play in Abbingdon, VA. The production was Where the Red Fern Grows. The dogs were played by children. The entire cast was less than ten actors. The audience was full of school kids, who had mostly not read the book.

We all cried together. I reread the book about every two years. Do the same for Old Man and the Boy. There are some good morals to learn in each book.

As new book I enjoyed this summer was The Wager. It is about an English sailing ship by the same name. Full of adventure and hardship.

Ship of Gold on the Deep Blue Sea is another great nautical book.
