Does anyone make a snare all set up for wolverine?Books on snaring wolverine?Here in Maine we are only allowed to use snares for beaver under the ice.I'm new to snaring.Looking thru archives not seeing much.I'm finding wolf snares.Do I just use a certain type wolf snare?Are ram power snares any good?

Watching this one. I've only ever snared beaver under ice and a couple wolves, snares have never been my go to. Trying to get better at it though

We use tip ups on them basically we make a cubby and put a 5 or 750 in it and on trail coming in we put a tip up . We have gotten a few this way but mainly get them in wolf sets .

If you need some Wolverine snares I can build you some. Or send pics of how to do it pretty easy. We build them with 9 gage wire and 7/32 with a swivel most of are Wolverine snaring is done on a Pole so when caught they hang . If on ground there is a good chance they will twist out . Will take pic this weekend while out . If snaring on ground we use 9 wire and 7/64 and anchor highly as you can get . We try not to snare them on ground. We have found most are Wolverine follow the wolves most the time wolves come through the Wolverine are there next trip . So when we catch wolves we set up Wolverine stuff because we know there coming.

Your best bet is a 330 we have experimented with buckets, boxes and cubbies . The best one we have found is a old rust 30 gallon drum we found on line it seems the have know probably putting there head in it we’re they will refuse others this one drum produces a huge portion of are Wolverine we have other sets near it but they constantly go to the drum. Our you can just put them in a sleeper hold I have personal done it saving a friend from eminent attack.

Thanks.I'm thinking about using my old fisher sets with straight up and down trees and evergreen boughs about 2 to 3 feet high with 330 belisles and snares on poles and on the ground around the sets.Any pictures or information is greatly appreciated.

I like snares on poles but you have to be certain that the cable is not long enough that they can get their feet on the ground. They really like to spin and twist

Well, if you are spending all that time and money, I would suggest footholds. There is much more drama with one caught that way. And the sound of their "growl" will stay with you for life. Not a true growl, but not a grunt, either. You have to hear it to understand.
Oh, and no matter how you catch them, they won't have the nose crinkled, lips thrown back, full-dental exposure that so many taxidermists seem to prefer.

Not a few taxis do that with bears too.

Maybe what you're thinking of is that huff/grunt combo wolverines do ? It is different to describe in words.

Would love to hear one.A wolverine would be my crowning achievement of my outdoor career.

With bears most taxidermist spread their claws to far apart as well.

Years ago, we held an auction here on this site, (with Paul's blessing, of course), to conduct a study involving wolverine. We had fantastic participation, with members donating all things trapping, hunting, and fishing, but the crown jewel was a trapping expedition with our very own White 17, a world-renowned wolverine trapper, and famous homesteader!
If memory serves, the winning bid was indeed high 4 figures, (a bargain by any measure), and included 10 days in the bush, (weather permitting), use of traps, bait, lure, a remote cabin, White's crayons, and
hand's-on advice of White 17 himself.
Well, the lucky bidder not only scored many marten, fox, and I forget what else, at the end of the trip, (it might have even been the last check), he got his wolverine!
\ Man, that was something.
I'm sure many current members will remember that.

I still kick myself every day to this day for not having the money at the time to bid.

Still waiting for another of those trips to come up again....lol
