I used to read a whole lot. I could read very fast, because I paragraph read and had eidetic memory, until I had bad smoke inhalation in my teens. I used to read 300 to 400 pages a day, after school and more on weekends and other days off. I also got to read whatever I wanted, during most of my classes in grade school, because I could read the assigned reading for the day in just a few minutes and complete all the work very quickly too. I've read several thousand books. My favorite stand alone books are "Tunnel in the Sky" by Robert Heinlein and "Earthblood" by Keith Laumer. My favorite series are the "Riverworld" series by Philip Jose Farmer and "The Chronicle of Narnia" by C.S. Lewis.

I can no longer see well up close, so I rarely read books now.

Keith

I have read a lot of historical books about life here in the Adirondacks, books about famous people Trappers & Non Trappers.
Death in the Desert is real good. short but to the point.
Animal Farm, Lord of the Flies, Call of the Wild, To kill a mockingbird, Macbeth , all good.

Really hard to say the best.

Sometimes a Great Notion and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey. Movies were made of each book but like most they took a few artistic liberties.

Impossible to list them all. Bible is first, because it leads to salvation and wisdom. But I read a lot. Here's one that that will make you think, still working through it. [Linked Image]

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

I think rather unfair to pick one title. I liked what others have mentioned: The River Why, Wild Life, Lonesome Dove, Sweet Thursday, Grapes of Wrath, etc.

"Mussolini and the pope" don't know author.....with older Italian people I knew and talked about world war ll era......this best describes how European people were inherently good....but they followed crazy...power hungry leaders.....once this leadership was destroyed.......history shows ....they only want to live same as Americans...

Point of impact by Steven Hunter most of his books tie in with each other some how. The movie "shooter" is roughly based on this book

I read this book when I was in grade school. It's called Vulpes the Red Fox. It was a story about this red fox that outwitted the hound men and the trappers. It was a good read.
