I have a couple otters I want to freeze until this warm spell ends and I can try frost scraping them. Should I roll them up fur in or fur out to freeze them?

I guess that they won't be in the freezer for too long so rolling them up fur in shouldn't be a problem. Tuck the tail inside the pelt and roll them up nose first. The nose will be the first thing to freezer burn so it should be buried.

Much appreciated. Supposed to get colder next week, but probably not cold enough until around the 1st of the year

Freeze them fur out.

Why?
If you freeze them fur In you don't have to completely thaw and turn the hide. so, you can slip them on board and start frost scraping without turning them. It seems to me the less you handle an otter the more chance It won't become singed.
You skin the otter now the fur Is in. You roll It up the fur is protected. It un- rolls as it thaws. It doesn't need to be turned again till you get it back from the tannery. Or If your sell to the fur market it still doesn't need to be turned. To me it just seems like a lot less work to achieve the same results.

And if you need to wet It down just wet down the board. But I think Boco might have said if you frost scrape you don't have to wet down the fur.
I'm out of here.

Do any of you guys have a good comparison photo of singed versus not. Always worry about it, always kept the board and fur wet when I’ve scraped.

I've always done the same, but frost scraping seems like it'll be easier so I want to try. I don't think it's quite cold enough (9°F) I'm going to wait until it's 0 or colder again
