Had a lady call me today about a feral hog that had been hit. She wanted to know if I could help by relocating it to a sanctuary to help it. I said I would relocate it, she asked where at. I said in the ground wrapped in chicken wire.
She said why in the ground in wire. I said. So the meat stays together after I build a huge fire on top of the hog with all the oak I have acrued since the storm. She hung up.
Was I too insensitive?

People will spend more time, money and emotion saving a less than worthless animals, than healthy, friendly, great ones, that will be put down. A lot of rescues have gotten in trouble for mutilating dogs, by removing eyes and legs, so they can sell them for more money and donations. There's been some horrified former owners who saw how the perfectly healthy pet, they paid the shelter to take, was hacked up and given a sad, fictional backstory to make money for the shelter's owners.

I lost count of all the critters I "relocated" as a game warden.

for 20 I can come shoot it

for 100 I can come get it and shoot it some place else

for 500 I can relocated it ,but if we are being honest I am going to wait 3 seconds after it is out of the trap at the relocation site and shoot it with buck shot.

Best part is if it's a deer during the season. I don't have to burn a tag.
My platoon used to cook Hogs on the beach all year long when I was stationed in Hawaii. We would sleep, fish and cook hogs, fish and seafood on the beach if we had a long weekend. Man I miss those days. And yes we had plenty of female companionship. My boys never got into trouble. We worked hard and played hard. I made sure we all reported for duty come Monday.

Reminds me of my father’s former neighbors. The wife was way overweight but for some reason had it in her head she was better than others and some kind of prize. One night the neighbors had their usual weekend party with friends over. One of the friends was a lady upset about a recent break up she just went through with her boyfriend. She had been drinking heavily and said she just wanted to find a man to love her for who she is. Then the woman looks over at the overweight neighbor lady and blurts out “Your fat as a hog but your husband still loves you.” So honesty can be absolutely brutal! Truthfully I would have felt bad for her if she would have been a nice humble woman but with her attitude I felt like it was well deserved!

LOL. For about a year I was tasked with trapping problem skunks and coons around Salt Lake City. I got tired of explaining the negatives of relocating problem animals and the necessity of euthanasia. So I just started telling them I was taking the animal to the Jordan River Rehabilitation Center. That answer was always accepted and every one of those animals was permanently rehabilitated after a trip to the Jordan River.
