A good rule of thumb for remembering where your sets are is if you come to a spot that looks like a good place to have a set and it doesnt, you have a problem. If your set is in a spot when youre checking that doesnt say this looks like a good spot to put a set, you also have a problem. Like!

I dont like the idea of flags because they are unnatural in my area but in my area there are fences all over so the animals are used to fence poles so that is what i use. I use the same poles while muskrat trapping as well. Here is a video of how I use them to find my sets after they get covered in snow. Onx maps on my phone. Anyone not using onx for land ownership, set marking, tracks etc. is absolutely selling themselves short. It is the most useful app I’ve ever encountered. Then go home and look at it on your computer and patterns emerge. x2 Best app out there!

I got everything memorized in my head! Do people really believe putting a flag on the opposite side of the trail works?
Cold as ice!

We don't mark anything, older I get probably should. We have just trapped same property for so long we just know where to look.
But when I do ADC beaver work, I just put a piece of ribbon up.
But put how many traps/ 3 traps 3 ribbons on first or last tree I come to.
Let me sugar coat this

OnX Maps. They even have a trap icon. It's pretty easy to get in the habit of making a set, and marking your spot. You can also put them in files so they can easily be turned on and off, and easy to send in a link if needed. I remember most of my set locations but still use the app because if something unexpected were to happen, I could send the the file with the coordinates to a buddy with the app, and they could check or pull them for me. I also make them for future reference. When I catch a cat, I attach a Pic of the cat then put the gender and size on the notes for that pin point. Then I can easily see where I've caught cats and the typography to help me find new spots. It has also helped me narrow down areas that seem to be nurseries (kittens and females), and areas that seem to be heavy with toms so I can better manage where to set in the furture.
If traps work like the Antis say......I would have no fingers.
