Been a good tuna bite off our coast the last few weeks. Big bluefin are migrating , passing by and apparently hungry! Didn’t take long to hook one, it ended up being my biggest I’ve ever reeled in. Can only keep one fish in the 47-73” slot. Killed him, got him iced and in the tuna bag. Put lines back over ( you’re also allowed to keep one “under” fish, from 27”-47”. We only trolled 4 minutes hooked another big one. Got him to the boat, measured and released him. Headed towards home and the birds showed us a school of nice sized rockfish. Messed with them on light tackle for about an hour before we ran on home. Great day spent on the ocean!

You eating that beast or selling?

There was some giants off Montauk a while back but the fat content wasn't great and the price reflected that

I'd rather catch the rock... but sure didn't turn down a buddy's offer of a few tuna steaks last week. They were out of IRI in DE 'bout 30 miles out.

Nice John. I thought about taking mine out for rock but the steering seized up real bad after crab season. Need to take it in this time and make some changes. Hope your archery season was good.

That looks like it would be a hoot to catch. Congratulations.

Thanks guys!

GCS you’re correct. Smoked bluefin belly is amazing, the fat between the layers of meet makes it incredible. These fish have been extremely fat, probably 1/2” thick along the skin.

Coop these fish are close, no need to run 30 miles right now. Saw a guy yesterday in an 18’ Parker catching them! Not saying I’d recommend that lol, but cool to see.

Sashimi, grilled tuna steaks, poke bowls, and smoked tuna so far. Need more recipes! Gave a lot of it away, very happy friends and neighbors. Caught another nice tuna yesterday. That’ll be last one for a while now I suppose
