Anyone watch that show? It's on the Nat Geo channel. The thing I can never figure out Is why do all these Candian and Alaskan flicks have everyone doing all their building in the winter. But it would have been fun to help Margot do her build no matter what time of the year. LOL

Be pretty boring show if they showed reality.
Who is John Galt?

I can see that as being a Issue. I built the kids a house In Delta and there's no way I would have built that house in the winter.

Kind of like Homestead Rescue. I'm betting that homestead site Is researched for weeks or maybe months before the Raney's show up on site. You don't do what Is shown in 7 days.

It’s winter for half a year. Got a month a muddy mess in Spring, 2 months of high heat and humidity with a ton of mosquitoes, then hunting season for the next 3 months.
So, winter it is!
Cold as ice!

Winter is the best time in the northern bush, Much better for working than the heat and bugs of summer not to mention there is limited acess to anywhere in the bush outside of freeze up.
Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Haven't seen it.. the last time I watched any of that type of show was when that familys illegal cabin was burned down.. This modern "homestead" thing cracks me up...not many are legit. Most seem to be poser wanna bes.. It's bad. What they're presenting as remote homesteads is what I think of as accessible and convenient. If you can drive to it, even if it's a crappy 4x4 trail it's not remote. Remote requires a plane ride or at least a lengthy boat or snow machine ride

100%. We had some friends that we ended up xing over their weird virtue signaling about their "off grid homestead"...ffs they are right off the rich with a driveway...power pole in their front field. I guess there was some European tv channel that filmed them building their cabin but never aired it...
Don't get me wrong, I have a place on the road system too. But I also have a cabin that requires a float plane ride or about an hour in a fast boat. It's hard to confuse the 2, one is a lot more effort which is returned to me in freedom and solitude. The other is convenient, I flip a switch and lights come on, have nearly unlimited water from the well, can drive to a store (takes a bit, but still), and I also have random people ride by on snow machines all hours of the night, occasionally see troopers going to deal with an unruly neighbor, etc.
