I found out today that parts for the old 702 echo are unavailable now and I’m looking for a new one, I was going to go up in size and been thinking about the 3120 Xp or the 592 xp as I might do milling in the future and I do have some big oak trees to fell, any advice is appreciated.

If you have an old time saw shop in your area they likey have some old Saws for parts in the back I know I have been surprised thay have came out with parts foe 25 year old echo my son picked up. They said they had 5 of them in the back.

That’s the problem they’ve died and the last old dealer I’m dealing with now has run out of his stash.

I cut timber for a living, I own at least a dozen saws. The newer ones are not worth what they cost. The computer crap is a pain. For instance had to replace a piston on 592 after 6 months. I have saws that are 10 years old that still run great that have been through millions and millions of footage.

That’s what I’m worried about, the old 702 didn’t even have a brake on the chain so that’s what I’m used to.

husky went to all computer controlled but brought back the manual module the loggers prefixed after a few years but raised the price. at least that is what the old saw shop was telling me when I was looking. Basically I was wanting a saw with more power than my hot rod worked over 361 but about the same weight. They had a husk that was 10 cc larger and the same weight. But I couldn't justify over 1000 for something I didn't really need what I do need is a powerful smaller light saw for my boys that will be easier for them to use.

I think Husky saws were designed by an oil baron. Burn about 2X the fuel of my Stihl !

I have a 3120. It's a big boy. I run a 36 inch bar and full skip chain. It rips through everything like a hot knife through butter. Fun saw, runs great and wears you out with its weight. Would be great on a mill.

Hmmm...my Stihl 261 has M-tronic microprocessor to adjust fuel/air mixture and Im guessing yours does too.....that was why the number changed from 260 to 261.

The earlier MS 261's were manual adjustable carb. There's still a few new old stock manual carb versions out there, but you have to search the dealers....Check out the adjustment ports in the pic.[Linked Image]

Have you looked at the Holzfforma 660 ? I haven't messed with one but apparently they are exact clones of the Stihl 661. Stihl OEM parts fit perfectly.......from the reviews I have seen.

The name sounds German but in fact it is Chinese. A guy might be able to rebuild it as a Stihl as the Holzfforma parts wear out. The nice thing is that it is all "old" technology.

if you liked the 702 and have a good echo dealer then the cs-680 might be good

if you don't go visit the Husky shop and the Stihl shop , that might make your decision for you right there.

the 4 closest Stihl shops to me
first and second are hardware stores , with very little support
3rd is a tractor dealer that will support but sends your saw 40 miles to the dealership where he has a saw tech so the soonest you will get anything back is 3 days
the 4th you go in to buy a chain or two and you would think you were there to annoy him like he had something a lot better and more important to be doing.

my son works for the closest , it is a hardware store and even he wouldn't buy a saw there. There just isn't any support.

they all 3 have workable saws but if you have to fight to get any service at all and live with down time , try the next place

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I do drive an hour very out of my way to get to my saw shop and it's an all day event. first come first serve and you can drop it off and come back because they won't have down time without people waiting. But they are very good.
