I have received several inquiries how the DNR will handle our new otter season. Our license expires the end of February and has to be renewed March 1. The confusion is the new season go until the end of beaver season in mid May. We have a 4 otter limit and the question was when the new license is issued will we get 4 new tags. I spoke with a warden today and he emailed me this clarification. Basically the 4 tags we received at the beginning of season is for the entirety of the season. When we get a new license in March it will say 2025 but if a trapper has unused 2024 tags they are good until mid May . We can't get new tags until July and they will say 2025.

Here is the reply I received.

[b][/Steve,

Please share this information with folks as you see fit:

Individuals trapping otters after the close of the season will need a new license.
An individual’s validation coupons for the current season shall be used to tag otters trapped during the extended season. The validation coupons that come with the new license won’t be available until after the close of the spring otter season.
In regards to the proper month not being available on the validation coupon, the direction for folks is to notch the day and the AM/PM.
During registration, wildlife staff will take note of the month that the otter was harvested.b]

Any questions feel free to ask.
