I found this in the woods the other day. Quite a while ago on a hunting trip, a buddy of mine said he found a can nailed to a tree and said it was a marten trap. He isn’t much of a trapper. For years I looked in the area he said he found it, but never could a find it. I love see sets from the days of yore. Well poking around the other day in a different part of the same drainage I found another one. Honestly, after a lot of contemplation I don’t think the marten actually got caught in the can itself, but rather it was used to hold bait and maybe a trap was set nearby. Any ideas why the old Luck Lager was nailed to a tree? The tree was fallen over. Standing it would have been about 5’ off the ground. Its oriented so the “T” is right side up

If the Marten put its paw in there and fell maybe it would hold him until it died, not sure just guessing.

Bait can help keep bait out of weather then the conibear is set. If you look close either side of fallen tree you may see where the conibear was placed.

Tree was most certainly standing when set. There were no remnants of wire nails etc

Thats a good thought. 5’ off the ground seems high for that but interesting

Also. After a little research the Lucky Lager is a 50s 60s beer

Are there any old mines around the area? Found something like it over in the Salmon Chalis mountains. [Linked Image]

It was used to keep the mining claim paperwork in. Found a more while hunting and a fee where old Prince Albert cans.

I have found those before. Ones i have seen are a jar lid nailed to a tree with glass jar and paperwork then screwed to lid. Its limestone country. Not much for ore I think…

Can't rightly argue with that conclusion, but five feet it is a little high up for a self-serve castrator.
But then again, this can was found up yonder where the yanks have been known to originally hail from "the Old Country".

Wasn't it Johnny Thorpe that would hang a can of minnows up in a tree to rot for an attractor. That would call in canines for miles?
