No disrespect at all here Mr. White, but here is a Holzfforma G466 that is supposedly a Stihl MS 462 equivalent....Well, unfortunately the difference is night & day in quality.

A friend of mine had one of these give to him, and it has been nothing but trouble. Stripped the threaded side plate stud first thing with normal torque while reassembling. Metal is really soft, and the motor is weak...My Stihl MS 462 will walk all over it in every job we've shared while running those 2 saws together.

Parts will interchange, but I'm afraid your just going to end up with a Stihl sooner than later anyway after rebuilding the Holzfforma to keep it running....Personally would just purchase a older Stihl model before buying a Holzfforma.

I’ve never cared for stihl, the ones I’ve been around and run just never excited me very much, the last independent around here is a Echo Husky dealer the rest are farm equipment dealers that really don’t know much about small engines, the two I was looking at the 592 Xp is around 1450 and the 3120 xp is 1909 so I’d call the 1500 and 2000, so neither is cheap.

To be fair, I have a Stihl that had those same issues and then some. I finally had to throw it in the junk pile and buy an Echo. And it could eventually have problems too, but no way it’ll be as bad as the Stihl.

I looked at those White and it is only 540 for a comparable saw, but some guys here had bad luck with them.

Sorry to hear that M. Magis, I've had really good luck with Stihl & Husky's
But being these are mechanical devices anything can & will happen in time.

Never tried Echo, but am open minded toward them.

Stihl 261 and stihl 500i do 95% of our cutting, if you need bigger than a 500i then go to Huksies.

I like the auto carbs and computers, simple and they work, every day, any weather those two saws just work.

Any pro model Stihl is a worthy investment, the 500's are just my favorite. The power to weight ratio is hard to beat, they're really getting power saws figured out from a technology standpoint. I have several 661's and a 462, also great saws. I have a little 211 that sits in the truck, it's good enough for cutting stuff off of roads and trails, and if someone steals it I'm only out $300

I don’t think you’ll regret either of those saws, some have issues with the 5 series though. I’m a Husky guy just from a few bad experiences with Stihl at work. But when I see a guy with a 500i, I know he’s serious about cutting wood…lol

I went with the 3120 my dealer has sold some, I got it yesterday and ran it today, it is nice plenty of power and with the 32 inch bar I don’t have to bend over to cut branches, weight wise it’s not much more than my 702, so far so good time will tell if it lasts but I’m happy.

You dove right in huh? Lol. I've never spent more than an hour on a 3120, but I own several big bore stihls (084, 088, 880, and 090) and I seldom use them for anything other to say I have them lol. 661's probably see the most use, closely followed by my 500's. I have a 462 but it has yet to impress me much aside from being super lightweight

You will like it. The longer bars help keep it balanced and like you said, you don't have to bend over as much.

Yeah I figured go big or go home. grin Also I’m looking at running one of those Alaskan sawmill with it so the bigger saw made sense I may buy a smaller one later we’ll just see if I think I need one for now I do still have my 20 inch electric Dewalt which works pretty good.

Offda, you must be in better shape than I am! Good luck with the new saw and be safe.

I don’t know about in better shape but, I know how much burr oak I have to cut and it’s hard to cut so I’ll put this saw through it’s paces and don’t have time to deal with under powered saws.

For milling that's a good call, especially if you're doing any sort of volume. The 100+ cc powerheads last longer milling and ripping because they have the torque for it, and they're not built for speed. Milling with a small saw burns them up FAST

It sure seemed to be really fast, but compared to the old 702 it probably is. smile
