I have seen atleast 50 bear shot out of a tree, always tie dogs back to one side, get the shooter lined up, backup shooter position is set , everybody else is behind shooter. Havent had a close call that I remember, now coon, thats a different story.
Just the right amount of whelm.

Article said he was 10' from the base of the tree, guess it wasn't far enough... bear must have been 10 feet out on a big limb.

It was another hunter with him that shot the bear. Why would someone be dumb enough to stand directly under the bear?

Anyone that thinks critters always fall straight down without ever taking a dying leap or bouncing limb to limb probably havent been on many bear hunts.... The thing is why stand anywheres under the bear in the tree to begin with. How dumb can people be?They have no business being in the woods if they are that stupid.

As of right now, only the people that know what happen were there.. Did the shooter get excited an shoot the bear without making sure everyone was clear? Did a dog get loose an he rushed to retrieve the dog? We don’t know. We can call everyone of them stupid. Like normal, without knowing the whole story. But one of our fellow hunter/outdoorsman is still dead. An left his family right here at Christmas at a young age. Just blows my mind.Been a registered guide for years.Have hunted bear with dogs since I was a kid.If there is someone with a gun I'm not standing anywheres under a bear of that size in a tree.Just common sense.

In his defense, Maybe he was clearing the area, the bear started coming down and the shooter shot early, also sometimes the terrain dictates where you stand or walk. maybe the bear was hung up and they were trying to poke it out, we had a close call once that way. I would hope it wasnt a stupid mistake.

Was the man who perished shot by others in the party, or squashed by the falling bear?
