How do I trap rats that are burrowing under concrete? Could I use a Colony trap baited with peanut butter or would the rats escape the trap? Would a RBG 40 conibear in a little can with some bait in the back work? What would be a good bait for them? I don’t have any experience with trapping barn rats and I own 1 rat trap but it’s weak

if theyre burrowing, easy to place a trap in the holes. If you have foot hold traps, set the traps tight against the walls of the buildings and blend em in a bit and set em with hair triggers.

A few flat setting jumps or #1 longs with very light pan setting and make them go between the jaws not over them. You can set those on a 2x4 laid along the side of the barn they like to run edges. Put a smear of peanut butter about 6” up over the pan on the wall directly over the pan. Caught a bunch by both batch legs that way.
Set them right in or up against the openings where they go in and out. Make them go between the jaws. The pan is a good stepping spot. They can really jump so get them to step on the pan not over it.
Use some board pieces and other stuff to funnel them over the trap.
Weasel boxes with #1 jumps or longspring traps work very well too. You can make weasel boxes out of milk cartons or plastic jugs lots of examples in search history here on tman for making those from stuff you have laying around.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Bait blocks shoved in the hole. Push them in good with a stick.

There could be a lot of rats and trapping them will never rid you of them. I would make a trip to your local farm store and purchase some rodent bombs (look like a big fire cracker) light one up put it down the hole as far as you can and use a leaf blower to force smoke down the tunnels. Done in one time.

trapping rats is fun but if you have obvious rat problems you have a lot of rats, as fast as they breed it may take awhile and you probably won't get them all.
For outside the home rats it's hard to beat rat blocks, change to a different formula after a week or so. It will knock them down fast. Never used the bombs, not sure how that would work with an extensive tunnels, but YMMV

Grandpa used to always say shove poison down their hole. But be careful they don’t turn around and bite you while you’re doing it! grin

I have one of those rat a Nader traps. Pre-made it cover it with the tarp, then set the doors to close. Best catch was 15.

Like coyotes, rats have a fear of new items in their environments. Some rats are relatively easy to trap or poison. There's usually a few that it's easier to shoot, because they won't eat poison and will usually avoid any traps.

A couple boys with 22’s, rat shot and flash lights. If outside and distance is greater switch to 410. Let the slaughter begin. Forgot to add, shooters have better luck when elevated. Loft or roof with lawn chairs.

This was a lot of fun with a thermal and a suppressed .22 in a friend's barn that had a rat problem.
