As far as ashes go I just make a tin pan with high sides to fit inside of stove to collect ashes. On my new stove I haven't cleaned ashes, yet it is in the tin tray just dump it. A little ash in the stove not even enough to clean up.

There expensive but I think there's a 26 or 30% tax credit yet on the clean fire ones.they have a 25 year warranty on the ss models.i installed mine it's not that tough to do.think when I put mine total cost was 5100 for stove and all the accessories including the cement pad that it sits on plus I heat my hot water with it which saves on the electrical bill.

Just called a dealer about a central boiler, 11,000 for the older non compliant stove and 15,000 for new epa compliant stove. Those prices are for just the stove. I can't justify that.

I have two older Quadra-Fire 3100's. Both are pre_ACC, that's the automatic combustion control Waggler mentioned. Mine don't have that so you can have them roaring like a jet engine and shut them completely down. You can also load them and damp them down to where you can get twelve or more hours out of them. You don't get a lot of heat like that but they stay lit.

I hate rebuilding a fire when I come home from work or having one go out overnight. I light the Quadra-Fire in November and burn that same fire through mid-March. Creosote is not an issue as long as your burning well-seasoned wood.

Qudra-Fires used to be rated the cleanest-burning non-catalytic wood stoves by the EPA. Don't know if they still are.

Anyhow, all the newer ones have ACC. And from what I've seen they aren't the same quality of the older ones. They are lighter for one thing.

Mine don't have ash pans like Vinke said but I know some of the newer models do.

I agree that if your current stove is decent quality you should probably hang on to it.

Or find and older Quadra-Fire. grin

Eh...wot?

Heat master C-150 boiler
Heated with wood for over 40 years with inside stoves. I’ll never be without a boiler again.
Less than 10k
Yep it’s high, but so much better.

I think I paid over 13 k for my heat master installed. After seeing how easy it was I could have saved money and put it in myself. That said prices have gone up.

I was going through so much lp and the house still would not get above 68 running non stop I figured as many tanks as it would take me a winter in 4 years the outdoor paid for its self in lp savings and saves about 240$ a year in electric since I turn off the hot water heater 6 months of the year. In my case it was worth it with my big old leaky house and no good place for an indoor unit.

Advantage over indoor unit with the outdoor unit is no smoke, ash, dirt, bugs and zero fire hazard in the house. Unlimited hot water is nice also. It's one of those things that stinks to pay for but after a few years of good results going on 6 or 7 I think now I no longer think about the price. It's paid for itself and nearly free heat other than time and saw stuff.

I would look at heatmore if I were going to get another one.

I have Heatmor and love it. 20+ years and going strong. In real $$ saved $80,000 in fuel oil and electric, all the heat and hot water you need. With your tree business, you have all the wood you need. My neighbor loves it, people pay me to take trees down and remove the wood and I burn it in my boiler.

I have a hitzer 82 in the shop, it can burn coal but wood is working pretty good in it, I’m sure it’s not very efficient but the building isn’t either.

We pay around $120 a month in electricy and last year we used 150 gallons of propane for both backup heat and cooking. It would take me forever to justify the boiler expense. My shop is 900' from the house, if it was closer I could justify a boiler to heat both but as is it doesn't make sense.

I'm sitting on probably close to 200 cords of logs at the moment, it'd be great to have the boiler just to make some disappear, hopefully next year I have one for my shop.

with those #s I wouldn't even think about it. 900' is a stretch my unit is 160' from the house and no issues. my installer told me I could run pipe up and heat dads house as well and it's close to that. I was not sure even though he said it would be fine. it's not just the distance and cost of pipe but it's also up a hill.

I'll probably do a boiler just for the shop and keep a wood stove in the house. I'm not sure how much longer I'll keep doing tree work at my current pace, I'm trying to get everything I want before I quit.

Can you use the boiler as a business expense. You would be using it to get rid of the scrap wood.

I probably could but not this year, going on a end of year spending spree for trucks/equipment and we bought 200 acres this fall, my savings is taking a beating. Boiler makes sense for heating the shop but probably not the house.

As far as moving the goal post before I quit tree, I'm making a list and checking things off it, one more piece of land , debt free, newer used truck, 100k in savings. Hopefully 5 years if I stay sane and healthy.

If you want to narrow it down a bit you could reduce your search to stoves with the chimney pipe coming out of the top like your current stove does. The pipe coming out of the back will require an elbow, moving the stove further into the room in most cases.
