I am taking out my last lock on stand and replacing it with a ladder stand. I bought a stand that said it was 18’. Well it’s 15’ at the platform and 18’ at the top of the back rest. Needless to say it’s too short for the location. I made this one piece 10’ section to add to the bottom. This will put me up 25’. I am making another brace to go between the ladder and tree. This new section slips right into the legs of the section above it and will pin in place like new. Now I just need to paint it.

Good job! As I’m getting a little older I’m afraid of stands and heights. I climb two rungs up and the whole thing starts shaking because of my nerves. I’ll just stay on the ground…

Make sure you wear a safety harness!!! I’d not use it
18 is as high as I go. Most are 15. The dimensions on factory ladder is were the hunter will be. Unless your less than 3 ft tall you will be at 18+. I’ve found most time I never use all the sections. Always too high to see or limb something blocking view. In my 45 years and counting how high is minor compared to wind direction
Sure are a lot of deer killed from a ground blind. Just saying

Wow that's mighty high.
My stands are all 15 or less.
Pole saw comes in real handy.
Not sure if 25 feet up obstructions won't be worse and trimming a few limbs difficult.
But I'm sure you know your terrain and what your doing

Are you in a woods or at the edge of a clearing?

Another thing When you go to stand it up you might think that additional piece wasn’t a good ideal. That will be a job. Good luck be careful

Once I get the stand in the tree I’ll see if it needs to be shortened. This stand is on the edge of a long slope. At the top of the hill are thick pines on my neighbors. My side is open woods then my food plots. They see me sometimes as they come down out of the pines. 20’ is where my lock on was. I use a pulley system to get my stands into the trees so this tree has already been prepped to get the old stand down and the new one up. Never get in a tree stand of any kind without a harness.

A parachute might be better than a harness, lol
You either get over, or under obstructions, I prefer under now,....

That's far higher than I want to be in a tree stand. One thing to remember, especially if you're bowhunting, is how the height affects your shot angle. Good luck!

What is nice is that if it is too tall I can remove a four foot factory section and slide the new ladder in. The new ladder will slip in any of the original sections and get secured with a pin just like the original sections. Here it is all painted.

I have 2 of those stands like in the floor. You will like the seat flipping up feature. I have the same issue as you with the deer coming over a hill towards me in one spot. If the are coming that direction doubt you getting a nose bleed will fix that. But great looking paint job.
I don't use the pins because it will rattle climbing it. It prevents the ladder sections from going all the way together. IF the ladder sinks in the ground after climbing just loosen ratchect strap from around tree and re tighten once set section sets in place.

I always use the pins to keep the ladder sections together. With the stand strapped in the bottom ladder could sink in the ground further later on and if far enough could seperate the sections of ladder.

As would using bolts. But that's my Ironworker background talking. Nice job. I was kicking around the idea of making some stands if I ever get a wire or tig set up. I'm more likely to finally build some nice shooting house like I have been talking about for 8 years now. ya right.
