I must say, I don't think I have ever seen canine sets with traps so obvious anytime, anywhere. However, that sure shows how to make the setup in that particular riffle.

Just doing what I want now.

I watched that video years ago and thought the same thing. I don't know if they have since changed it or not, but I remember when they first opened a trapping season for wolves in Idaho, for some odd reason they made it illegal to make water sets for wolves, you could make water sets for any other animal it was legal to trap, but not wolves. They had a lot of odd wolf specific regs when they first opened a season and have since changed a lot of them, but having never been in a situation where I wanted to make a water set for them, I have never checked to see if that has been changed.

If water sets are now legal in Idaho, I would definitely try them, the wolves have probably never encountered them.

I should add that I know several trappers thet use tide pools for wolves, (even I tried them), but not with white traps!

Just doing what I want now.

I just talked to Dave and he said he used those white sets just for the video. This particular location froze over within days too. I’ll leave my sets in for now, but I think the ground is just too friggin soft.
Here’s Dave with one he caught in one of these sets on his 3rd line in Ontario back in the day….

So much for my spring sets….lol. I didn’t want to go in there to check how thick the ice was. Going to move a bunch of snares to this spot and reset the footholds. I’ll get one one of these days in a FH. Never had 7 wolves in one pic.

I can already picture what I’m going to do here this weekend.
