Todd,

I catch too many otters every year in Duke 1 1/2 coils with regular jaws.. They hold them just fine. I wish they didn't because I have to release them until Christmas and then we can only keep 3. I was on my way to tag kept otter # 2 last year when I caught kept otter # 3. I was happy because I could get them both tagged at the same time and save a trip. A few stops later I had another otter. Had to release him. He was actually otter # 10.

If you look at an otter's front foot and leg, they aren't much bigger than a red fox's foot and leg.

A lot of good otter trappers recommend a 1.5 to 1.75 sized trap. I was thinking the #3 would be a decent combo beaver/otter trap in water.

Don't think an offset would have held this one, even on a drowner.

More important than offset: cast, wide surfaced jaws with smooth rounded edges will give the advantage to the otter, offset or not. A stamped thin jaw with a square edge on the underside of the jaw will give the advantage to the trapper, offset or not.
