These boxes are designed and built by me. They are 12” long and they can fit #110, #120, #155, and #160 conibear traps.

What do you all think?

Looks good. I would be concerned about swelling if they good wet.

The plywood won’t swell to bad because of the conditions I trap in. I’m also using plywood and NOT OSB. OSB will swell a lot if it gets wet.

I have made and used that type for years. Both a 120/5x5 size and one larger size for the 160. Super convenient especially when trapping off a sled.

In some places squirrels can be hard on plywood boxes.
I prefer narrow spring slots,quarter inch,hold the trap more solid.Solid trap is important since often an animal will climb on the springs before entering the trap.This can knock the trap out with wide spring slots.

I use the same style. I have a bit narrower notches and also have nails beyond them in order to wire stubborn traps solid. I fasten to trees with double headed nails since I remove them every season. They work well enough for Michigans meager marten limit.

Looks about the same as mine. I don't make them quite as deep as I used to, I make them 8" deep now to save plywood

I tried making them 8” long, but I didn’t like the look of the boxes.

I have some conibear brackets that I will fasten to the inside of the box to hold traps.

I might try selling some this spring. How much do you guys think they are worth?

I was thinking of selling them for $10-15 each.

I don't trap marten but it sounds reasonable to me How long does it take you to build one?

I'd buy them for that. I think the ones at Ted's are like $14

Wouldn't newspaper tubes or plastic flower pots be cheaper, lighter, less bulky ? Or just use foothold traps and forget the enclosures altogether.

Who doesn't love a good marten castle? Bears love them to death.

Depends on the type of traps he is using. I prefer narrow spring slots also, although I think mine are at least 3/8", but I've got some older and different brand traps where the spring legs are not perpendicular to the trap when set. Those traps need about 1" slots in order to fit. I've got a few older boxes with wide slots that those traps will fit in, but usually they just get used with pots and Ts, if at all nowadays.

Something to keep in mind though if he is going to sell them instead of just have them for personal use, ideally they should fit most or all brands of traps that any potential customers might use.
