No apology neccesary. I over reacted myself. I dont want to be a jerk or nuisance for everybody, so I will be more thoughtful when i say something.

I hope I can make friends instead of enemies on this site.

Good luck this season!

Last year I only trapped for one month, and i didnt catch anything!

I havent been to lucky when it comes to catching things, but hopefully that changes this year with my new trapline.

… I would offer advice… but I likely wouldn’t catch anything in Alaska conditions either lol

Spend time in that wilderness forum … a lot of knowledge in there

I think they were just giving you a hard time, no actual hard feelings. I just wanted to make sure they knew they were grown men picking on a teenager before they kept at it too long. Best of luck this year, hope to see some catches from you on here

It is definatly interesting trapping in the snow conditions here. if mess the stucture of the snow up too much it hardens into a concrete like layer. so you have to be careful when you cover your traps!
I once had a fox and a lynx step right on top of the pan and it didnt fire beacuse the trap had to much snow on it.

So the moral of the story is: be careful when you cover your traps!

Same here buddy! I’m sure there’s lots of talent up there that’ll help you out. Never quit and have lots of patience. Try different things and keep an open mind. Nothings written in stone when trapping (except the regs I guess, lol) and some might call you a fool for trying something, then show em the fur when it connects.

If you disturb it too much, throw it up over your head and let it "re-snow" over your set. Something about mixing the air into it, or the way it naturally settles as it falls (not sure which, maybe both) helps keep it from doing that. Sunlight can cause a crust no matter what unless it's really cold, white traps help that some

I have some of the no BS wolf traps that came powder coated white, most of the others I spray paint. I have some dark colored ones too, I try to save them for creek crossings or under thick spruce, anywhere that a darker color helps it blend.

No need to die your trap white or wax it up here. You need a snow paddle for covering your traps, Ted down in Tok sells them ( Teds fur shed ) or you can make your own. For lynx you don't need to cover the trap at all but you need to use guide sticks so the only comfortable place they put their foot is on the trap pan.

I have seen the snow scoops that Ted sells, but I have a version of my own. I always thought the animals would smell the paint and avoid the trap. Is there a problem with them missing the trap?
