Looking for advice on a 223 load for my 556 AR's. Ive just shot the 556 FMJ and want to get some coyote loads. But 223 loads come in like 40gr to 70ish grain bullets. I dont know the barrel twist(I looked). Was thinking of going with Black Hills ammo. Thanks

55gr v-max has performed well on everything I've shot with it. Wolves, deer, and black bear all crumple right up so I'd imagine a coyote would too

I have fooled around with a lot of the 55 to 62 gn bullets and I really like the Berger 55 gn HP . Absolutely nothing wrong with the 55 gn Vmax or Ballistic tip, but I have found the Bergers shoot very well in every 223 I tried whether it be AR platform or bolt gun.

Any 55 grain soft point that shoots good should be great.

my reload is a 55gr Hornady soft point over 25.1gr of H4895
accurate , works and I can get the bullets in bulk

it works in a 1:7 and 1:8 and I am sure it would work in 1:9 as well

those are your 3 most common twists.

not sure if you are asking about reloading or finding an ammo for your AR

in either case your looking for a bullet you can source as loaded ammo or components so that you are not changing , then learn that load and where it hits and hunt it

not sure how you feel about online ordering
might try these

black hills is good ammo , if you have the ability to buy a couple boxes , shoot it , if it groups well , run it and if it works well order deep.

Black hills 55gr vmax puts coyotes on the ground. 1/9, twist out of a 16" barrel is my go to. However they group just as well in my 20" barrel also.

If you want to find out the twist a cleaning rod works. Put a tight patch on it. Stick it in a few inches. Mark the rod with a felt tip marker at the outside edge of the breech. Make another mark up by the rod handle. Push the rod in slowly. When the mark by the rod handle makes a complete revolution mark the rod at the breech again. Push the patch out of the barrel and remove it. Pull the rod out and measure the length between the marks you put by the breech. If the marks are 8 inches apart its 1 in 8 etc.

I run hornady 75gr hp out of my 5.56. Hogs and coyotes don't stand a chance. Not fur friendly however.

If it makes a track on this earth , I can catch it.

Should also be stamped on the barrel somewhere if you don't have the patience for that
