Posted this morning about another coon I caught in a fisher set today. Went out and checked some water sets on a local river. Had two muskrats and a female mink in some bottom edge sets. The weird part was the mink still had a frog clamped in it's jaws even after getting caught. A Couple weeks ago I had a double catch with a frog and a muskrat together. What's next? [Linked Image]

It's a ballsy frog that kicks a mink in the teeth!

Caught a ermine in an otter crossover he was carrying a star nosed mole if he hadn't had that in his mouth I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have tripped the 220.

The mink blamed the frog for the body crunch and made it pay with its last effort.

I caught a mink a few years ago just like that, but already out of the water heading under a brush pile next to the water's edge.

Funny you should mention a star nosed mole. Several years ago l had a bottom edge set with a 110 bg. along a bridge wall for mink. The water was about 15 or 20 inches deep. I caught 2star nosed moles along with a few rats and mink in that set. I had never seen or heard of a star nosed mole until then. Had to look them up on google.
They are an aquatic mole and one of the only mammals that has the ability to smell under water. They are as ugly as sin. Haven't caught any since. Google them if you want to see a crazy looking critter.

Anybody else ever catch a star nosed mole in a water set?

I've caught a few of them in pocket sets. One spot they are almost as bad as coon for plugging up a good mink pocket.

Nice catch Walt. Sure is fun to be out there and see the wierd things mother nature provides for our entertainment.

57 years trapping. It's who I am. Every day is still as exciting as it was when I was a kid but a little more work.

You have the darnedest luck, Walt.

I've only ever seen one star nosed mole it was while I was a landscaper and it was on dry land.

Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.
