When I got to this set today I found this.
All that was distributed was the grass pulled out of the hole and the trap was dug out all the way around. Not flipped out or fired as can be seen. What's in the pic is how I found it.
I tripped it and remade the set making dang sure that the trap was very well bedded.
I couldn't see a definitive track anywhere near the set, but it's on a pond dam and the dirt is pretty hard.

I just had this happen to me a week ago except in my case it was sheep's wool that was pulled out of the whole, couple days after I had a raccoon in the trap and haven't had that problem since

Either the coffee filter was showing or it smelled something on it.

Bedding with the local dirt that came out for the trap
Waxed dirt covering
Light grass chaff over the waxed dirt.

There is an old saying down....You got to clean out the trash before you get to the good stuff. I'd saturate the area with coon sets. The more coons you get out of there the less chance of having a blown set.

At least you had your pan tension set heavy enough to a avoid the non-target coon.

I would guess coon as well. With their front paws they have very sensitive feel and if you notice the animal followed the side walls of your trap bed and thus could feel or sense the different feel of the soil. Was able to get the pan cover out with out taking the dirt off the pan, that takes some dexterity which coons do have.
