Well, I finally got to shoot something with my new rifle I bought this past Summer, lol. I’d moved my Leupold to it and had planned to shoot does with it but kept sticking with the bow. My younger son used it to take his buck and Kayla (DIL) borrowed it to shoot 4 the other evening. I haven’t shot a deer with a rifle in a while and man I forgot how fun it was!!
This gun is suppressed and shoots like a dream!! Of course I was shooting off a tripod about 125yds away from the wooded edge they travel, but still it was so cool to hear the bullet thump and watch the deer fall in the scope.

Now some cons about the rifle…the magazine will not go in fully loaded with the bolt closed. Which means I can’t chamber a round and add another bullet to the mag and reinsert it. After the shot the bolt is a little tough to close if you’re being gentle. I didn’t notice it after the shot because I immediately eject and load another round, but my son told me it was a little difficult so I tried it later and he’s correct. I’ll have to do some playing around with it to see what the issue is there. Other than that, I like it!!

I bought the Ruger American Gen2 in .300BO last spring.

It came with a 5.56 AR mag. Bolt would lock open after last round due to design of that mag top.

Bought two Lancer .300 BO mags (10rd and 5rd.) Both are much smoother and the bolt don't lock after last round out.

Thank God For Your Blessings!

This is my gen 2. 6mm ARC, carry it around daily with me on my trapline and out and about. I can reach out and touch coyotes with it and wouldn't think twice if I jump one of the few wolves running around the sage brush out here. For the price I absolutely love it.

Been looking at a gen 2 in .243 to toss in the truck during moose season. I carry a .223 Wylde for most everything else, and it's hard to beat the handiness of a short AR setup

Well, dropped another in the same exact spot this morning.
Anyone ever shot a doe that stinks?? I’m assuming with all the bucks I saw that she’s in estrous. Walked up and thought I’d done shot a buck the way she smelled.

does the bolt close hard without a round in? or only when a round is in?

have you tried a Magpul AICS mag

I think the manufactures to be able to sell it in places like Canada make sure 5 means 5 and not 5+1 much like the mags pre 1994 you would get like 15 3/4 in a mag but when you had to have 10 round mags they made it so you could get like 10.01 leaving no extra to get that last round in easy or close the bolt

it would hang down more but a 10 round mag would also get you the ability to close up on 9 maybe even 10

if I was in the market for a new 308 the Ruger Gen2 would be really high on my list of options.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Bought a Ruger gen 2 American this past summer as a first rifle for my son. I have one major problem with it. I like a 3 position safety. But the safety on the gun can go from full safe all the way to fire with a light bump from a gloved hand. This is not acceptable to me...

Bolts only an issue with the mag in and bullets in the mag. Like I said, it’s only when being “gentle” with it. I don’t notice it when actually “using” the rifle in a hunting situation.
This mag only holds 3+1. Only issue is once I chamber a round and pull the mag to add another bullet, the mag won’t go back in.
Gonna play with it today and see if I can’t figure something out.

Ok…mag issue resolved. User error, lol. Instead of tapping/slapping/beating entire magazine, just give it a firm push near the locking mechanism and it clicks right it with bolt closed and mag fully loaded. And it will cycle just fine. Bolt is still a little tough but I think over time it will get better. This rifle was shot 5 times when I moved the scope and taken 7 deer so far, so a little over half a box of ammo.
May go sit in the open pines this evening where I can stretch it a little more. Only issue this morning was fog and making 100% sure I was shooting a doe and not a little spike or button. Did see a nice 8 that I hope makes it two more weeks cause he will definitely make someone happy next year if he grows like I think he will.
