One place does not allow adoptions if the dog is going to be kept outside. Unbelievable!!

One place charges $95 for everything. One place charges $300 for everything. (neuter, shots, chip, worm)

Couple places want to check out your house and property.

One wants to come to your house to do a follow up visit.

One place has a ten day return policy.

Most of them you have to fill out an "application".

It truly is laughable to see how some people in this world think of dogs. They are DOGS for goodness sake!!

They love being outside. They have a fur coat. They love meat. I always get two so they can keep each other company so looks like people would love to see me come and save two from the gas chamber.

We just want two dogs. Looks like it should be a lot easier than this.

It’s ridiculous. One place denied a woman adoption of a cat because she was older and a bit overweight. I understand wanting a pet to have a forever home but you also have to think of people and what THEY need . They put animal welfare over human welfare.

Some of it I get as I’ve seen some in bad situations because their owners had problems.

Still these animals need a home. Shelters don’t have the privilege of being picky

Oh I know that, but I’ve known some that the animal had been better off to be put down, some people live worse than the pigs we used to raise.

I looked into it a year or so ago and gave up within the first 5 minutes. I thought I was doing a good thing by wanting to give a mutt a good home but they made it seem like I was there begging for a favor. When they insisted on coming to inspect my home prior to adoption I just laughed and walked out.

The last dog we got from the shelter was pretty easy. They did ask us to bring the dog we already had to the shelter to introduce it to the new dog to make sure they would get along. Kind of a pain, but not an unreasonable request, I guess.

Usually just find on half starved in the side of the road and load em up.

But that being said wife adopted our last dog and wasn't super bad but still seemed like a little bit of a hassle. I get one or two things because it used to be a easy way to get bait dogs for dog fighting...but a lot of it is

I miss the days when county's had a dog pound. Strays were kept 3-4 days and if not claimed put down. Always had a litter or two of puppies and kittens. could buy one for the price of the animal at large ticket. Before it shut down in favor of "animal rescue" and "adoption" could buy one for ten bucks. Friend in NM had a dog get loose. Ended up at the "rescue" When he went to get it they had neutered it. he was mad. tried to make him pay the vet bill. told them they could go ahead and kill it he was not paying it. They let him have his dog. Fat and lazy now though.

If you want a trained dog get one about 6 weeks old and train it or pay someone else to train it. Any shelter dog is going to be too old to ever be trained well. I would personally never take a shelter dog. I'm glad that others feel differently for the sake of shelter dogs.

man ther is one on the deck of the apartment complex behind moms condo barking and whining locked out on the deck. I went to find it hearing it thinking it may be tied out in hung up on something. Nope just some low class people have it locked out on the deck. I could see them inside among with a 2nd dog.

The have zero concern for any of the neighbors. It's all I can do to keep from knocking on their door but I don't think it will lead to anything positive so I didn't.

May have to get a nice steak for the pup to eat to solve the issue.

So where is the best place to buy fly bait these days? Flys have been geting bad around the barn.

edit probably why they want to screen people's homes and such. You live in an apartment 2nd story with 6×8 deck and have a 40 lb dog already nope you don't need another 60 lb dog.

Sore subject for me right now. My wife and I had to give away our big blue nose pitbull because of her starting a new job and not being home all day with him (really bad separation anxiety. Like, destroy your house trying to get outside to find where you left to bad) so we spent about a month with him posted on a pitbull rehoming page, talked to several people who wanted to adopt him, decided on this one family because they have a 100+ pound pit with separation issues too, so we thought okay they know what they're dealing with and they'll be the best fit for him. They got a hold of my wife 24 hours later (this morning) and let her know that he got excited and knocked one of their kids over, so they took him to the shelter as a stray. I'm super (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) off and really bummed out, he's a good boy and doesn't deserve this, and I can't even get him out because he isn't adoptable yet because he just got there. And it's not like I could even keep him anyways, our work schedules don't allow us to be with him all the time. I'd let him be a yard dog while we're away at work during the day, but he's not a husky or a Karelian, he'd freeze to death

I was without a dog for a good while before I got my old German wirehair, well she was 4 at the time, when I went to see her at the shelter they informed me that she had been adopted 4 times before me and brought back for behavioral problems

When I got into the pen with her she was listless and didn’t really pay that much attention to me, she had the most lost look I have ever seen on a dog, her owner had died and his wife was going into a nursing home, took a couple months before she started coming out of her funk but after she did she turned out to be a fantastic dog and a great bird dog, she was also a total one man dog


She was also very well trained and obedient except where cats and small dogs were concerned she hated both and didn’t get along with other dog to well either

She was my constant companion for the next ten years

If they made it easy to adopt the dogs, they'd run out of dogs and lose their excuse to beg for money.

Try craigslist.

I hate when people say they rescued or adopted a dog, when they really just bought a dog.

Crate him when you're away during the day. I am NOT a fan of crating dogs all day, but it sounds as if it's better than the alternative. What a d-bag move to send him to the shelter before asking if you wanted him back!!!

Yep, some places require you have a fenced in yard and want pics of your home and even want to do a home visit and want you to assure them they will not be left alone more than X hours.

We took in a Jack Russell, Kenny, a year ago. He was a handful, out of control, 1 1/2 year old that had been fostered 4 times. We had him right at a year and he had become an outstanding deer tracker. Just before thanksgiving Mary Lou had him on a lease taking him to our back field. On neighbors 2 great danes had escaped their fence and attacked Mary Lou and Kenny. She got on her hands and knees trying to shield Kenny but one of the danes grabbed her by her coat tail and drug her off him and the other dane grabbed Kenny and killed him. Mary Lou was not injured but traumatized. I was an hour and a half away, and before I could get back home both danes were put down, which saved me the trouble.

So we are now looking for another JRT and I dread dealing with these agencies as most pups sell for $1500 and above.

rescue folks have gone off the rails, pushing old senior dogs with health issues for huge "donations" and a host of requirements. I can't believe people fall for that nonsense....

Yotetrapper he destroys crates like they're nothing, I tried that route several times. He even broke out of the dog boarding place when I dropped him off for a weekend to go to chena hot springs one time. We didn't mind having a difficult dog, we love him but we can't keep him with my wife wanting to work, but I can't even do anything for him right now, the shelter has him.

I am sorry to hear you lost your dog like that. In Ohio, you can buy a lot of Jack Russell Terrier puppies for between $150.00 and $300.00 from the breeders. I can find some contact information for you, if you want me too.
