No idea how many if any here on Tman make the YouTube videos but being restricted as to how much I can do have lots of time to view You tube trapping videos, one thing have noticed that is both kind of funny and glaringly obvious is those that say they are trapping in snow have no real concept what snow is when they are trapping in only 6 to 8 inches of snow. Show how it is done in 2.5 to 3.5 feet of snow then maybe your trapping in snow video will hold some merit and validity.
Put cages out yesterday that had I not had snowshoes would of been plowing snow with belt buckle

Same as guys talking about trapping beaver under ice when there is 2 inches of ice that you can cut with an axe,lol
They need to longline beaver in March with 2 feet of ice cutting with chainsaw, setting up 5 or 6 houses a day for a week then go back and haul out the beaver lol

6-8 inches of snow is still trapping in snow, is it not?

Boco, 2 inches is still ice, right?

stating your opinion about someone not doing it right because you want them to do more or how you do it. That isn’t the right mindset to have. But it’s your opinion so I guess that is all that should matter to you. Lol

I’m about to set my line again and add a bunch of cable sets. Guess it isn’t real trapping since it’s in the high 60’s today. Hope my trap line lives up to y’all’s high standards one day. That’s if I ever care what another person’s opinion is about how I trap.

I wouldn’t trap in 2.5 to 3 feet of snow so any video trapping in that amount of snow would be useless to me other than entertainment. However, I do trap in 6-8 inches of snow so I may get something out of it that I can do. I am talking about ground sets Martin tree sets would be a different story.

Clear ice like glass too! That’s BS!…..lol. Shovel 3’ of snow off only to see solid grey ice and the real work starts. “

Trapped for years chopping thru over two feet of ice using a chisel and pick with my step father. We used to really pile up the beaver. What I would give to relive those days with him.I always got 1 week off from school so we could set beaver houses nonstop starting January 1st for a whole week.

Agreed.

I’m sure you guys are the toughest tough guys to ever do it, but shouldn’t we be promoting trapping of all kinds as long as it’s done legally and ethically?

There's trapping in snow, and there's snow trapping.

Hey man, I’m all for having fun. Heck, I think it would be fun to trap in 2-3 feet of snow and I plan to trap through thick ice. Definitely not easy. But nothing about the original post or the follow-up was poking fun.

I don’t know, I see them poking fun at the YouTubers. They’re still great videos and very good trappers. I don’t see too many guys in Montana or Idaho posting videos. They got some real brutal conditions cold, hot, snow, rain…..it’s nuts! Seems like there’s only videos if it’s easy.
I actually dumped my saw and bought a Nils ice saw. Those things are awesome, you just need to start a couple holes to get the blade through. They will eff up a beaver just like a chainsaw though…lol

There's different levels of snow and ice. And it's that middling level of both you just cant do anything with. Upt about 4 inches or so you can keep footholds traps working without doing anything that next level you can't really wait out and you can't really make snow sets with. Then you get the snow that lasts for weeks and you can make snow sets.

Ice is the same. You can bust up skim ice and catch stuff. Half inch to 3 inches is tempting and skinny people can almost safely work it. Above 3 inches you can start doing some fun stuff
