This Pic was taken around 1915 near Grantsburg Wisconsin. The hunter second from left was my grandfather. He died in 1929 so I never knew him. This was a time when hunting was important to put food on the table. Note the
Rabbits minus their heads, as they probably were shot with a rifle while deer hunting. Sure had some cool guns back then and you can bet they knew how to use them.

it's the gun you have in your hand
you went meat hunting and anything that made it's self a target got shot

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

My smokeless savage ml 2 only left a hairless stub of the neck with a250g .45 Hornady xtp on the last rabbit I shot with it. Head was just gone completely!! I was walking out in the evening and saw the rabbit figured the gun could use being shot off so shot and dressed it then took it to an old man I knew that could not get around and hunt anymore since it didn't have any shot in it. You shoot them with what you have with you.

Then again my youngest shot one with my glock in the head a few years ago when we were rabbit hunting. I saw it sitting called him over and gave him my glock and he shot it in the head. No shot in that one and his first handgun kill not in a trap at 9 or 10. He has really liked my glock every since.

very nice picture I noticed a lot of old Pictures they hang deer by the neck but today it's mor common to hang them head down at least around here. I wonder if that's regional or change over the years?

Great picture and thanks for sharing. My grandpa would have been 16 that year and he said he could take a rifle any time he wanted by the time he was in high school- shells were handed out in 2s and 3s.

The understanding was that each one meant another critter or you'd git laughed at by everyone. You can bet those ol boys knew exactly where each shot would end up.

Cool pic even if your grandfather wasn't in there. That makes it EXTRA cool!

Sidenote: I got this picture from my mother, had it framed and it hung in my deer hunting trailer. My mother lived to be 98, but her father who is in the pic died in1929 when she was a child.
