Thats my alone time in the woods.I live for them days.I don't think of anything else while in the woods trapping, hunting, fishing, etc.

While I agree I'm at a busy time in my life. For example last week I was home for 14hrs total worked 92 hrs. in thar 14 hrs I took a nap sager geting off a week of 16hr night shifts and the 2.5 hr drive home. Then I cut some fire wood ate with the family short nap and back to work. no way I'm going hunting. but had the boys wanted to go I would have went for 3 or so hours instead of the 2nd nap and dinner.

But the song is about the kids growing up. Mine are way to fast being honest with myself they are the only reason I make time to hunt any more. I used to take a lay off and hunt from October through December every year from about 18 to 25. It's all I thought about. Today I have more responsibilities and priorities.

Well, now it’s flipped around. We take the old man out or he’d never be able to do it. He pulled the trigger on a nice fork horn spiker, the ole bugger can still shoot. We took care of the rest.
Good song.

I, for one, miss hunting with my son (I have 2 sons, but 1 has never cared for hunting). I have no grandkids.

If I did have grandkids (and if they liked deer, turkey, and hog hunting)...they would likely be the envy of their hunting friends. I would spend all my time putting them in front of some nice bucks, fine gobblers, and big boar hogs.

But, life sends us all in different directions.

I hunted alone most of the time, when my son was old enough he would come with me but he never had the fire in him.... He's now in Texas, he moved about the time I started going downhill health-wise so I'm on my own again, except I can't really handle it by myself anymore, plus my wife is disabled and I can't leave her for very long....I ended up selling my hunting property, which broke my heart, but I just couldn't go there anymore....
So the moral to the story is enjoy what you do as long as you can, remember kids grow up and move and have their own lives to run. If they can't go with you, your kinda done, and only have the stories to tell...

I raised 3, oldest is a girl and then 2 boys.
They have hunted since they was very small.
Oldest boy always kicked my heels when we was walking
and that always was 1 thing i hated for anybody to do.
I caught myself 1 day about to get on him for it but as I turned,
it hit me...1 day I'll miss this. And sure enough, I miss it far more
than I relized i would. Youngest is 20 now and they hunt by thierselves
most of the time now. We still hunt some together but I don't care if
I kill anything. Yep, if you've got young ones hunting with you...
soak it all on. Cause they grow up fast...

My 30 year old son and I have been hunting together since he was a toddler and we still do. He’s my best friend. Now he’s got a little boy that’s chomping at the bit and I can’t wait for the 3 of us to hunt together. I’m blessed.

My boys used to always tell me thanks for taking them hunting. My reply was just remember this and be sure to take time out and take me when I'm older.

My son and I have been hunting together since he was 5. He’s 40 now. He always comes around to hunt with the old man. We put the hammer to em this year. Dad’s been gone for a while, he was a deer hunter right to the end. My son and I were driving and I heard dad shoot, I bumped into my son and said that was grandpa, he said a spike was just right here in front of me and I didn’t shoot I was hoping it would go to him. It was my dad’s last buck.
