When circumstances don’t allow daily checks for a short term, do you guys spring your traps or do you put plywood over them or what? Seems a shame to totally pull them. I have a super early shift all next week. Not that it matters, I ain’t catching anything as of late

Every 10 days I spring all of mine while I fly for 5 days, then on my first day off I reset. I just caught my first fox so im definitely no professional- shoot hardly consider myself a beginner but I caught that fox on a trap I sprung and reset 4 times.

I'm almost positive that PA registration says if a trap is out there set or sprung it has to be checked every 36 hours

Unchecked sprung traps are not a legal option.

As long as you check within the legally required time period, it should not matter what time of day you check. You could leave your traps set out and just check after work.

Them two guys from Pennsylvania are right. It’s a stupid rule, but it does exist. So, under the law, if you just spring them and don’t check them, you would be in violation.

Eh...wot?

I check my trapline once every 5-7 days. So I don’t think leaving them for a day or so should hurt anything, unless you’re in a more populated area. Where I trap, there isn’t a human around for the next 20 miles.

That just shows how ignorant the people in the conversation department are on making a rule . A sprung trap catches nothing.

I forgot you were in Pennsylvania. They have rules about checking traps within a certain time period. That doesn’t exist in Alaska.

Not a pro by a long shot, but I only trap my deer camp land which is 100 miles from whereI live. I cover them with plywood for a week when I’m not there. I remove the plywood, brush the set with a whisk broom , and freshen the bait/lure when I return. Sometimes get a catch the first night.

Fire the traps and bury them. Nobody is going to know they are there.

Agree with all
If you can show a way to catch in sprung traps you could make a fortune doing seminars wink

I believe Iowa even has the same law except our check is 24 hours, one thing is with tripped traps nothing will be there so checking is fast just glance so you can say you looked.
