I tried it once using the camp fuel. I used directions on the can. Wasn’t happy, super tacky for a long time so I guess I could’ve diluted it more. Bloody expensive. The last couple years I’ve used pro dip, the stuff you mix with water. After a couple dips I brushed them with some FMJ. I’m happy so far.

Don't worry with using speed dip. There are plenty of posts in the archives with answers to the nagging question "how do I get this sticky stinky mess off my traps?". There are so many variables when using it to ever predict if it'll work or if you'll be looking in the archives and starting over. Weather, brand of dip, color of dip, various fuels, mix ratios,,,, etc... all with only one small component being wrong will leave a gooey sticky trap that never dries to a hard shell like finish. Good luck!!!
Oh, and as an added bonus, it will greatly reduce your number of potential buyer should you ever decide to sell them. Many people won't buy speed dipped traps. It's too labor intensive to remove it.

Just boil in water with some lye wala good to go. I have previously commented on the black speed dip never drying and the brown speed dip working good.Had a few people agree which is unusual for me lol.

I bought a dozen SC 11/2 coils several years ago. They were tacky with speed dip. Anyway, I discovered paint thinner and a stiff brush takes it off in less than a minute per trap.
It’s good stuff is you mix it THIN. Do it in July. Dip-hang to dry- and they’ll dry in less than a day.

Sweet Jesus. For speed dip, Get some paint thinner and soak for a minute. Then take a stiff paint brush, and it comes right off. No fuss, no muss. And you’ll be able to sell them without any problems.
Cleaning traps of this “paint” type product isn’t rocket science. Let’s stop treating it as such.

If anyone wants to sell their Speed Dipped traps at a reduced rate, you give me a call through this PM. I will be more than happy to use them as I have used the dip on traps for over 20 years. You can use both processes of logwood dying (to stop the rust) and Speed Dip (to coat and slow its return). If having trouble, the above info suggestions on the correct mix and dry time will solve any problems. Speed Dip is a petroleum coal tar mix which dilutes with other petroleum solvents, gasoline being the cheapest/quickest evaporating one. Teacher hits the nail square but I am too lazy to use a brush so a soak in gas and pressure washed will do just fine for this guy (but why as I am still lazy!!!!!). ...........................the mike

I’m sure there’s a speed dip thing in the archives, if not there should be. One thing that irks me is the directions have never changed on the can. Does anyone, including the manufacturer ever use those ratios?
