I give mine a good cleaning with Borax, then use my shop vac (reverse the hose so its blowing) and a fur comb to fluff up the fur. Makes my southeast Texas cats look a lot better.

I have a long narrow plastic tote that I keep my borax in that works pretty good for the dry borax bath. It is not going to turn a caste belly bright white but it will clean it up and make it look better IMO.

You can use a leaf blower or the shop vac as described by E-Tex to blow the borax off but I recommend you do that outside.

Great looking fur.

Might turn these flat backed non spotted things into 20 dollar cats instead of 15 dollar cats, lol.

You should cage trap some western bobcats and release them into your gene pool. LOL

Crazy thing here is further south you go better they are spotted up but for some reason up here in the hills they are bigger but red backed and poorly spotted.

… had a couple go western when Nafa was in business…. Most went southwestern which paid pretty good on the grades I got …. Just sold 20 green frozen cat balls for 65 across the board

… how big a hassle is it getting them to fur harvesters and how much are you averaging… if you don’t mind me asking ETex ?

Compadre, here's my take on your question: Ship them to a US agent who will handle the Cites paperwork. Then take into account that they may, or may not sell next auction. When they do sell it will be about 6 weeks before you get a check. If none of that scares you off FHA is certainly an option.

In the meantime big cat buyers like Western Montana, Pappas, etc buy at most of the western Assoc. sales and if the market is hot they often out-do FHA for prices, have lower selling commissions, and faster money.

And I almost forgot, the ability to control whether your asking price is met in some of the sales.

Last year Kortum (Western Montana) was dominant at the western sales for cats.

Don't any of you guys wash your fur before putting it on stretchers? I wash cats in the sink with dawn dish washing liquid, rinse them clean, dry them with old clean towels, put them on a stretcher fur side in and apply borax and rub it in a bit. After 6 or 7 hours with a fan and heat, I rub off the excess borasx turn them fur side out, tack them to the stretcher and blow them dry with a blow dryer. Makes for some very nice clean, silky cats. I don't usually go to these lengths for coyotes, but for a $500 to $1000 dollar cat, I'll spend a little time

Hero pictures from last few years.
The picture on the top, those 6 cats went for over $5000 at auction.

Those look very nice Foxhunter. Hard to argue with your approach.

That said, if they were pretty clean to start with I find that borax alone worked into the fur leaves them bright and silky enough.

I'm sure your right. I've been known to over think things from time to time. Everybody has their own way. Just wanted to post my way.
