We are about due to lose power for a week. Been 12-15 years since the last time. Calling for freezing rain all night and then a foot of snow with 40MPH wind, its definitely a possibility. I got four lanterns out. Put mantels in one. Washed them, filled them with fuel, oiled the pumps and lit them for a few minutes. Headed out to get my generator and put it on the back porch so I wont have to do it in the rain. Bought gas yesterday. Have to make a thirty mile round trip to get ethanol free but dont want to wait and see if I will need it. Generator wont run the whole house but it will run fridge and freezers for an hour or so every day. I dont want to put groceries outside.

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

Hope not Danny! Got a geo thermal heat system takes a lot of juice but can run it on separate circuit. We built in 2007 moved in on October 27 and two week later we had that huge ice storm snapped every power pole within our electric cooperative good news is they replaced almost all of em since so hoping we don’t have to go generator… still icing here in Abilene hope it shifts to snow soon…

Ordered fuel today about 10:00, the dispatcher said it was bad already in Kansas and worse further north. I don't know how far north into Kansas they deliver, I would guess about 120ish miles from Blackwell, Ok would be their limit. Our delivery trucks come out of Oklahoma City.

My wife just told me that we're going to get somewhere between a 1/4"-1" of ice before it's over tomorrow evening.

Looks like I'm going to town after supper to get a few cans of gas for the generator.

It was a long drive home from KCKS this evening.
It was icy. Roads weren't near as bad as the citiots made them out to be.
Watched them smash into each other all the way from KCKS to Harrisonville before I was able to get away from them.

Usually get better once you get past the 7 hwy exit on 49.
Stay safe my friend - not looking good for us in west / southern Missouri.
Lots of ice is what they are saying.

And I just heard there was a big pile up on 49 in the grandview triangle area - trying to find out if its true or not.

The kids had a fun time running and sliding on the ice earlier. I was out for a while sliding around too, but decided I'd better not break a leg. They went to bed talking about plans to go outside and play in the snow right after breakfast. Oh, to be young again and be able to just enjoy the weather, regardless of what it is.

I rolled along smoothly when I hit 7 hwy to Clinton.

I'm not surprised that the triangle is all screwed up.
It was slick through there, but not terrible. Some people just need to stay home !
They couldn't wreck each other fast enough this evening.

With that much snow piled outside your window you have to have a sense of humor At least you are in good shape for that part .

Bowhunter, they started out saying we were to get 20-23 inches of snow. That changed to an ice storm, and jist had a glaze last night. It finally changed to snow this morning early. Gonna be interesting today, as they are saying snow for awhile this morning, then back to freezing rain! Rather have the snow, obviously!

Danny, I’m staying home too. Nothing out there that I need!

Sounds like ya'll are having a southern 'snow' storm, all we ever get is ice, why the roads are closed. No problem driving on snow but can't get traction on a sheet of ice whether you live up north or down south. We had the worst timber beetle outbreak this summer ive seen in my lifetime so if we get a decent ice storm this winter power lines will be down everywhere from dead timber falling across them.

A little ice here and a little snow. They're prediction lots of snow by midnight but they usually exaggerate. Birds are busy at the feeders.

We are in the middle of , what my dad used to call a 3 day storm Yesterday it snowed and blew. Today it is starting to snow and blow again. I tried to open the screen door , to my porch. There is probably 18 inches of snow against it, Will see later if I can get out , to shovel the deck off. In the meantime I will just stay put. Glad I don't have to be out working in it. Old saying , the north winds will blow, and we will get snow. old 243

Ice wasn't as bad as they were predicting here, maybe a 1/4. Maybe 6" of snow so far but it's piling up fast and starting to drift pretty good. Glad I got the cows fed, it's was getting bad there at the end.

Just went out for some firewood. We have about 5/16" of ice, it's still coming down.
Supposed to be changing to snow later on.

So far so good. You can make out a light coating of ice on the trees, we might have 3" of snow currently. Hard to say on the snowfall as we live on a hill and with the wind blowing I won't have an accurate take on that. Still saying we could get up to a foot, but I would say that isn't probably going to happen. So far the power is still on and the house is warm.

Getting some thunder sleet here now on top of the ice. Sure wish it would change to snow. Dont like to think about this ice and wind later this afternoon. On a good note - supposed to start lambing today one just went ahead yesterday and had a pair of twins. Got the other ones in the barn bedded down that are supposed to be lambing any time. Sideways sleet in the eye is frustrating.
