Probably the highest density I’ve dealt with. A snare guy’s dream. 6 days in, 27 fox down. Look to hit 30 tomorrow for the week on this piece after a reset today. After work I only collect critters. Days off I can reset. That was today. Even had one in a Dp on a marshmallow yesterday.
Snow coming it sounds like. Hopefully not enough to crush down the dead hedges and weeds. I’ve had bigger weeks for sure but for one farm this has been something..

Beautiful. Reds are still my favorite. My first critter that I caught and got me hooked on trapping. The dang coyotes started showing up in the late 80s and now I'm lucky to catch 2 or 3 fox a year on my limited trap line. I like the smell of the reds, coyotes not so much!

Man! That's great. I haven't seen a red fox in over a decade. They're gone. Grays all over though.

I’d guess about 400 acres. I’m not setting the wooded areas with a couple deer hunters still at it.

Thank you. There’s been some pretty ones there. A fair number are likely headed to one of your western sales.

Great job .

About 30 years ago I got permission to trap a 40 acre spot next to a local rock quarry. Big lake with tons of rats. Owner told me red foxes were getting in his garbage. I set 4 1 3/4 northwoods . First check before daylight 3 boar reds and a possum. Second night 3 boar reds and a possum. 2 nights later I had to run them at 4.30 am because of work. Had 2 more and had eyes running at me in the flashlight. Carried a 22 Remington single shot. Killed the only female out of the bunch with a 22. Set it for 2 weeks ended up with 16 reds. 4 possums and 21 muskrats. Man those were the days.

When you say boar reds do you mean reynards?

mud Are you strictly using what I presume to be cable releases ? (cr's) And not setting foothold at al . I was very slow to get certified to use CR'S here and once I did I have spent a ot of time kicking myself in the butt for being so darn stubborn and hard headed Even as a first time ever novice using them my catch improved so much I was simply amazed at how simple minded I I had been to keep doing things the old fashioned way ,The first year using CR,S my catch was double what had been my best season up to that time t The next year the total of my best two seasons ever added together And the next year my red fox numbers where a few less However I caught my first 3 coyotes with CR'S Since I like checking sets that have made a catch I try not to complain But I sure am an idiot for resisting the use of CR'S They are quicker and easier to make sets with The weather conditions do not impact your sets as quickly And in fact a snow fall can be a blessing as far as where to put them And a snow fall will get the canines on the move and result in some real good success . If you get time please post how you make out over the next several days as the Md .Pa, De NJ area is supposed to get a good amount of snow starting this evening into tomorrow Very good post and congrats on having a fun time checking your fox line Keep up the good work

Well I came 1 shy of 30 for the week on that piece. Had another in a foot set near home but with bad mange. That farm I’ve been catching is a mix of foot sets and cables. Most have been in cable the past few days including both this morning. I learned to trap in NJ where we had to use cable so this particular farm is like going back to my beginning. It’s a better snare farm than most with overgrown irrigation ditches vrs the more sterile farmland where foot sets shine.
I was initially excited about this snow for flagging out my next piece for later next week, but a big dump can hurt me. Knocking down weed and hedges hurts my snaring. It will all be about how much snow we get.

Makes you Want to get out of bed in the morning, huh! Smile. Oh yaa. Vikings vs Lions tonight (1/5/25) on Sunday Night Football. BIG game! Winner will be number 1 seed and loser will drop to the number 5 seat and will play away next week as a Wildcard. While the Winner gets a 2-week rest and then plays at Home for the second round of the NFC playoffs. That's a Big deal!
