Is it kind of tinny and flimsey?
,
If it is, I'm guessing it's a seal for a pelt.

$20 in 1914 is over $600 today. Some real money.

In the 1920's good trappers could make 10-12 thousand for a winter's paycheck by just trapping. My grandfather's brother did just that. In the spring of 1925 he sold George I. FOX Marten, for a $28 average, Beaver (illegal to trap at that time in most of the country) for a $24 average, Otter $27+ average, Bobcat's for $6.25, Red Fox for a $24+, Raccoon's for $7+ average, Rats for $1.40, Wild mink for $10 straight through (18) of them, and skunks for over $4. His check that year was$11,217.22. My brother has the framed receipt still in his home. The Roaring twenties were good times for trappers. At that time Saint Louis and New York were the fur capitol's of the U.S., if not the world.

I bought fur for Silberman's in the late 70's, from trappers in Washington and from country dealers in the Midwest. At that time their main office was in downtown Chicago, I think maybe in the Sears tower, and their main warehouse was in Medford Wisconsin. Back when Sears used to buy fur, it was actually Silberman's behind the scene, who where the buyers .
One memorable experience was riding shotgun (literally) in a 40 foot semi completely loaded with coyotes that we bought (or should I say nearly stole) at the May sale at the Seattle Fur Exchange. I think we bought every yote at that sale. May of 1978 I believe.
