When things are completely froze up, has anyone ever tried this? And did you have any success?

I might try this with bait in the middle. But why make things more complicated? Could a guy just hang a baited 330? I’ve got most of my ice otter in beaver sets around the feed pile. Our ice sure don’t look like this either!

Can’t recall if I stole this pic off a Tman thread, or if it was a discussion on FB. Anyways, always keep your eyes open in new subdivisions, they’re a gold mine for garbage wood, pipe cutoffs and stuff!

I've caught some in submerged buckets, but blind sets produce a lot better

Under water white 5 gal bucket cubbies produce. Have to drill some flow holes in them. And a hole to stake them down.

We don't freeze up down here but a bucket with a 220 will pile the loutre up. I like to set them in about 6 inces of water with a duck wing tied in the back with a a little bobcat lure smeared on the wing.

I’ve caught otters in simple fisher boxes baited with fish. I just placed near otter sign and it worked.

I have caught quite a few otters in mink boxes over the years.
If I run 20 or 30 boxes for mink I will get one or two otters.
120 puts their lights out almost immediately most times they dont live long enough to get their head out of the box
Same when they get caught in 120s set at rat crossovers.

I’ve had box sets for coons by ponds set up and have never caught an otter in them. However I set trail sets with 160’s for coons in the same area and then I catch a few otter.

yes, i used to trap coast in southeast Alaska as well as a salmon hatchery I did all kinds of odd bucket type underwater sets and caught lots of otters. one good one is make a wooden shelf with foothold support that serves as a step to get up on dock with a drowner. I used to hammer them with it.

Ive even sunk buckets with fish heads on bottom with 330s and caught them.
