Beaver and wolf-definitely the two keystone species in the boreal forest ecosystem.
Probably a lot of other ecosystems also.

Glad I don't live in a boreal forest, since we don't hardly have any beaver anymore.

Looks like some sources claim I do live in a boreal forest. Uh Oh!

My condolences.
Best traplines here for all fur are the lines with lots of live beaver houses.(the ones where beaver and wolf are managed)

I made that the official first post to the new group. So far there is one member besides myself…hope he likes it it. grin

If anyone would like to post or just join the group, it is called “Beaver Management Information and Resources”

It may not go anywhere, but the goal is to give people who would otherwise only find the other group, which is more of an AR group that is masquerading as “Beaver Management Forum”. They have stated that part of their goal is to usurp the phrase “beaver management” and turn into something that would be more appropriately called “killing beavers is never OK, coexistence is the only way”. Dont get me wrong, I think we all want beavers to thrive as a resource where they are not causing damage, but these folks would rather see people be displaced anywhere the beavers decide to move into, and are on a mission to stop all lethal beaver control, and it goes without saying that harvesting beavers as a resource or as good wildlife management is hated on most of all. Hopefully this group can act as a source of sane, reasonable, and balanced information from those of us who have boots in the mud every day and can offer real solutions and advice, and accurate information for the people who use facebook to research when they have a beaver problem.

unfortunately you will never change those peoples mind. Tell them no living thing, including plants, can live unless other living things die, and they will get purple faces and near to explode telling you why its wrong for humans to kill animals but natural when animals kill each other.

I just ignore and avoid them. I will kill and eat animals till its my turn to die. I will trap so long as somebody needs something trapped.

BTW yoy beaver will survive if food is there and they dont get ate.

Agreed Danny. A lifetime of dealing with the AR clowns has made that oh so apparent.

What I am hoping to do is give people who are looking for real and reasonable solutions to beaver problems another source of information than the one being run by the AR crew. I would have never even thought about it if a customer had not told me about it and said it almost convinced his wife to be against removing the beavers. Honestly if the problem could have been solved without removing the beavers I would have been happy to bid on a deceiver installation, but there was just no way that could work in their situation. Too bad, because I make good $ on an install and maintenance contract for those things. Not willing to lie and tell them it will work for them though. I currently have contracts to maintain a few of those things and they are absolute nightmares sometimes. I charge accordingly. A couple do work fairly well, but after a few years the beavers move into nearby territory and start a new problem. In the end, it always seems to come down to removing the beavers eventually. And those AR folks aren’t telling people that simple truth.

Gotta change the main pic to a beaver land scape, or maybe damage done by beavers.
Here’s a neat one about a burst dam near Ottawa…
